It was about 20 minutes from the edge of the South unit of TRNP. The only problem we had with it was the train track that ran close by. The trains blew their whistle several times each night, so we ended up with earplugs to sleep soundly. We did drive 70 miles to the North unit for a one day tour there. It made for a long day, but it was an ok trip. We liked the South unit better, and spent most of our time there. The town was neat too, with lots of attractions.Re: I 75 bridge in Cincinnatti M.R.E. wrote: Are they finished working on south bound I 75 bridge ? It's finally open with all lanes in both directions.Re: I 75 Bridge over Ohio river CLOSEDThe bridge did open on schedule, but until about the end of Sept they're painting it, which means 2 lanes are closed all the time. Since there are normally four lanes, traffic does back up during rush hours.Re: I 75 Bridge over Ohio river CLOSEDAccording to the latest news, the bridge will be back in service Dec 23. The suspension bridge is now back open, just not to trucks. The weight limit on that bridge is only 11 tons or so.Re: I-71 In KY 127 to Hartig Park -- GPS no go?????Since you got me curious, we went to Hartig Park Monday. It is a neat place, with a beautiful overlook of the Ohio River. However, the road from route 42 to the park is about 6 miles of very narrow and winding rough pavement, followed by 3 miles of a very narrow gravel road with lots of deep potholes and several steep hills. No place to take a MH or anything bigger than a small trailer. The camp sites were very uneven, and mostly not easy to get to. Nice for a tent, but that's about it. We didn't use route 127, but the exit from I-71 to 127 had no problem, and also no warnings on the route 42 exit to 127.Re: I-71 In KY 127 to Hartig Park -- GPS no go?????Since I've never heard of Hartig Park and haven't been in that area for a few years, this may not help much. However, 127 is a North/South highway, and from I71 to the river is North. It merges with US 42 north of Warsaw. If you're coming north on 71, you could take exit 57 a few miles west and get on 42 north to the merge with 127. I've heard nothing about 127 exit being closed. Good luck.Re: Questions Re Cataloochee Campground in GSMNPA couple of years ago we drove from Maggie Valley to that CG in our SUV and it scared my DW to death. I grew up driving that kind of road and had no problem with it, but I remember thinking there was no way I would ever take a camper on that road. Like melandme said, someone would have to back up out of a blind curve if you met anyone.Re: Staunton Va to Elkins WV hypoxia wrote: I took 250 last summer on the way from Charlottesville to the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. Someone told me when I left that West Virginia roads were so twisty you could put your arm out the window and hit yourself on the back of your head. They weren't far off on that. Roads were OK, just narrow and twisty. I did it with a 45' coach dragging a pickup. The Asylum was worth the trip. My DW wants to tour the Asylum next summer. It sounds like fun, except I worry about them wanting to keep her. Anyway, did you camp in the area? I'm just starting to research campgrounds there, but it's always better to get info from someone who's been there. The roads don't really worry me, but I didn't see too many campgrounds in the area.Re: Best Used Hybrid to Tow 4-Down 4-Door ??Our Escape Hybrid has been a great toad for 12 years, plus it's a good daily driver. If they still made it, I'd get another one.Re: Any experience towing a Ford CMax Hybrid? No experience with the CMax, but we've been towing our Ford Escape Hybrid for 12 years or so and it's been great. Easy to hitch up and tow and a good daily driver as well. If they still made it, I'd get another one.
