Re: Trip to Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper: advice?
I've been all through that country with a backpack, cars, and trailers, you won't have an issue with your MH. It is tough to prioritize any specific destinations but there are a few that are worth noting. At Johnston Canyon the hike to the first falls is very nice, good food there as well. The hike to the Lake Louise Tea house is moderate but worth the whole day if that's what it takes. A day or two in Banff will give you time to see the Banff Springs Hotel, the Gondola, the Upper Springs Pool, and the quaint downtown. The Whyte Museum is also a good visit. IMO the Icefields are a bit boring, it's a whole day on a bus to stand on some old snow and ice. As recommended prior, try to find a nice long path through the area, the views are breathtaking and many opportunities to just pull over. Kananaskis Country is my favourite area but all the highways are nice. The Number 1 highway is busy and fast but you can miss a lot. Some other nice little spots are the Giant Cedars roadside path, Margaret Falls, Spiral Tunnel, Elbow Falls, Squamish to Whistler area, Upper Kananaskis Lake, Frank Slide.... Most campsites near the popular areas will be a bit like parking lots. I would suggest spending your time at the attractions rather than the campsite when at Banff, Louise, etc. The camping is much better off the beaten path and will be much more restful. There are a few classy private RV parks that are very nice, one is at or near the Kananaskis Golf Course, and several along Hwy 1. So much to see and do, I'm envious of the trip you have planned, it will be great no matter what choices you make.351Views0likes0Comments
