Drain your water and try a different water source. Also boil or warm some cold water on your stove (not through water heater) to see if it still has a metal taste or smell. Brian Right, I am pretty sure it is the water heater as that is metal. Maybe it is rusting? We have used a different water source...same thing. Boiling makes no difference if it is the same day we showered(and had the water heater on). The taste and smell of metal is still there. As I said if we skip a day of showers and the water heater is not turned on the water tastes good and there is no metal taste or smell. This is why I think it is the water heater. I just don't know if it can be fixed or we need to replace it.Re: Metal Smell and Taste From Water dougrainer wrote: I doubt you have a metal fresh tank. Those went out almost 40 years ago. Draining the Water Heater will not get rid of most of the mineral deposits. You need to drain and then make a small tube connected to the pressure water hose and stick it in the drain opening of the water heater to help break up the minerals and get them loose. Then try to inject about a 1/4 cup of bleach into the drain hole, install the drain plug, fill the water heater and then drain again and keep doing it until clean water comes out. Doug It's not a metal fresh water tank. It's coming from our hot water heater. It smells like water in the shower. Then when we turn it off and use the tap water I imagine it is the water that is still in the lines that taste like metal. We have drain and added a small amount of bleach. It's fine for a day or 2 and then right back to the metal smell/taste. BTW, the water always comes out clean and clear. Thanks for the input.Metal Smell and Taste From WaterMy husband and I have noticed a metal smell when we shower and then a metal taste in our water after we shower for the day. When we shower every day we constantly have a metal taste. This has been happening for a few weeks. My husband did drain our water heater a couple of times and it was better for a day or so. Then in went back to metal. We have a 2009 class B and it gets a lot of use. Could our water tank be rusting? Do we need to replace it? And on a not so important note could this be what's making my skin and hair so dry? Thanks for any input.Re: Niagara Falls to Long Island Crabbypatty wrote: My BIL lays over in Cracker Barrels from time to time, so I looked this up. There is one just off of I84. You then connect with 684, which happens to be a nice ride southbound. This might work for you. They have rv spots in the rear. Also in the past when visiting cities, we have left our RV at a CG for minimul $. No hookups just a safe place to drop. Then drove in in just the truck. You might try that as well. 4 Merritt Blvd. I-84 & US 9 Fishkill, NY 12524-2943 Thank you for checking.Re: Niagara Falls to Long Island brooks379 wrote: I agree with darsben1. When ever I was going into NYC I would stop at the rest area on I 80 east just past Columbia, NJ and get up early and go into the city. Bad thing about Vince Lombarti is there are so many cars and trucks in there parked you might not find a place to park after about 4 pm - 5 pm. I 90 east 63s outh I 390 SOUTH I 86 EAST I 81 SOUTH I 380 EAST I 80 EAST to the GW....Only way to go. Thank you. I will try the I-80 rest area next year when we do our normal trip.Re: Niagara Falls to Long Island darsben1 wrote: mikeandlisa wrote: darsben1 wrote: At the Pennsylvania, New Jersey border there are 2 rest areas. One before the Delaware water gap bridge and one at milepost 8 in New Jersey. This puts you about 60 miles from New York. If you want too stay close to the GWB take I 80 to I95 south the NJT and go to the Lombardi rest area about 15 miles south. Stay in rest area. That puts you about 20 miles from the GWB Thanks. DWG is way out of our way on this trip and Vince Lombardi is also on the wrong side. Trying to stay on the NY side if possible. Actually DWG it is the prefered way to Long Island from Syracuse not the thruway. It is the way the AAA routes you, Google earth and Tom Tom as well. No tolls. The Vince Lombardi rest area is accessible south bound on the NJT. After that go to an exit and reenter. The route I gave you is the route I travel very frequently We take the DWG route when we come from TN but not this time and we won't be going through Syracuse. Also we are not going into Jersey this time. Thanks anyway.Re: Niagara Falls to Long Island Crabbypatty wrote: There are rest areas north of the bridges on 287 that you can pull into and sleep. Otherwise just about an hour north of the Tappan Zee is the KOA in Kingston we stayed over there once. http://www.thruway.ny.gov/travelers/travelplazas/restareas.html I do not think that there are any places between Tappan and Throgs Neck Getting on to and off of LI sucks on a good day. Travel as early as possible in the morning, like 3-4am or during the over night hours. an Alternate is the ferry from Bridgeport Conn to Port Jefferson. It costs but saves you all that aggravation. http://www.ctvisit.com/listings/bridgeport-port-jefferson-ny-ferry Happy Trails Thank you. Getting on and off of LI really does stink. If family wasn't there I wouldn't go near it, lol.Re: //www.boondockerswelcome.com jackalhunter wrote: Anyone belong to boondockerswelcome.com? 19.95 a year and you get a list of all the people who allow you to boondock at their residence. Thoughts? I joined last year. I was in contact with some people to stay with but the time frame didn't work out last fall. Next week I will be staying at two different people's houses as a guest. I contacted each of them early as a "potential" stay and have been in contact with them. They both seem very nice and have received good reviews. I don't plan on vacationing there and grilling or having my lawn chairs out. I will be in late and leave early....and it will be quiet:)Re: Niagara Falls to Long Island darsben1 wrote: At the Pennsylvania, New Jersey border there are 2 rest areas.
