Bought a 2006 Dodge quad cab 4x4 3/4 ton stock diesel loaded with low miles, cheap. Make sure the front end is tight. The older 5.9 is easier to work on an has less******installed and gets better mileage. Make sure the engine has good compression and the body has little or no rust. Updated the transmission to a heavy duty towing trans. What a difference. Found a used 65 hp Quadzilla towing chip. Put Bilsteins all around. Michelins underneath. I now have a great towing machine. If I was to pull a larger 5th Wheel I would get a dually one ton but not necessary with my weight load. I can install a exhaust brake if I wish but not needed yet. A lot cheaper than a new one and runs a lot cheaper.Re: Netflicks?Yes I remember those days. Now I pay $30.99 a month for a fiber Broadband connection which gives me access to my VOIP $19.95 a year telephone connection. Wifi throughout the home which gets me access to Netflix and Antenna's for local stations and all my computer stuff networked. I'd say that's pretty cheap.Re: Talking about new trucks a lot - so ....After seeing the price of new trucks and all the******they put on them i decided to buy a low mileage 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 quad cab Diesel. I'm rebuilding her and enjoying the challenge. 2007 was the last year they make the old 5.9 diesel and they are great mileage wise. Electrically they need some work. The 48RE is a fairly good trans but I upgraded that to a heavy duty towing transmission. Bilstein shocks. Michelin LTX M/S 10 ply's. Quadzilla 65hp towing chip. All kinds of little to things to make her more comfortable. So far having fun and should have a top notch vehicle when done. And much cheaper than an overpriced new one.Re: General Grabber HTS vs Firestone Transforce HTI've had both on my 2006 2500 diesel and I prefer the Grabbers.Re: Question on brake controllersWhat's your life worth? Ten years on the road pulling experience.
