There is no rust in the body as it was part of the recall so toyota sprayed some stuff . One door has 2 spots of rust. Mechanically its very sound as really it was a summer towing vehicle.Re: Hit a bump and lost my transmissionI do live in the north east with salt but the truck is stored all winter in my heated garage . The body shop that gave the quote to geico already offered me 6k to keep it and sell it to them either way I am buying back. The decision is do I sell to the body shop. The truck is older and is outside of the salvage inspection process for Massachusetts. So I send the title and they issue a new one as owner retained . When I sell it , the new title will be previously owner retained. . This can be even fully insured . A lot of body scratches and a big dent on the side of the bed. 2 small dent on hood. I am very surprised that it was totaled . If I keep it. New bed cover , the expensive metal one is gone, Mirrors as one side is broken as well go tow mirrors. Remove the massive dent on side of the bed Leave the hood dents as it’s small Have a body shop touch up or just bed spray the damage . Again , I can still tow and do everything once I replace the mirror for now. As far as Aamco goes it was a local shop which became the franchise and owned by same women plus with 1.5 yr warranty I am covered . I really want a side by side or spend that money on a alps motorcycle trip or something. I am going to save and buy a truck cash in a year.Re: Hit a bump and lost my transmissionGeigo started with 15k and after neg I was able to get 17k. Seems the used truxk market is absolute mad . I am going to see a 2015 ram 2500 crewcab work truck with 6.4 for 26k with 88k miles. Just get an idea. Thanks for the input. I will think even moreHit a bump and lost my transmission2008 Tundra 155k . Tows a 7k TT. I hit a bump on highway, felt a jerk and then it went into limp mode. Towed it home and all i could smell was burnt oil. Aamco rebuilt it and promptly a tree fell on it . So now geico has totalled the truck and offering 17k. ...anyway crazy i cannot find anything close to this price for the 10 days i use the truck in a year.I did put brand new tires and brakes before it. The buy back is 4800 and i am thinking of keeping it as the damage is all cosmetic. nothing mechanical. I think its a good decision but i have no experience with a rebuilt transmission . Not a factory rebuilt . those were like 8k, so just aamco rebuilt with a new valve body on it. 18k/ 1.5 year warranty just started. looking for some input rebuilt transmission .Also someone to tell me letting go is a better idea. i have a jeep wrangler , 2 motorcycles for my personal use [been working from home for 4yr to one or two work trips a year]. My wife has a ford explorer and jetta [work mileage car] . so the truck is used maybe 10-15 days for towing.Re: TOYOTA TUNDRA - who's towing a camper with a Tundra? RedRocket204 wrote: Ron3rd wrote: Former Tundra owner here and it sits fine with me. I agree with everything you said. There's a difference when someone is being a realist versus others being fanatical and skipping over some of the details :) Thanks. When time comes I want to go 3/4 tone due to bs state tax and insurance . How much better is your mpg with the 1 tonne . I hope I can have as much space as a crewmax.Re: TOYOTA TUNDRA - who's towing a camper with a Tundra?I tow with a tundra 2008 crewmax i brought 5 yrs ago used with 90k. Now i have 150k. I tow a 7000 to 7500 lbs camper depending on length of trip with bike sin the bed. I have done alot of 500 mile trips and one 2k trip and after 4 yrs i can tell its good setup My setup that make towing hard front lift 20 inch big wheel and tires. to compensate i added airbag in the back. its tow nice, i get around 7 to 8 mpg and with the 26 gallon tank. i have to gas up every 150 miles or so never bothered me. It pulls and runs. so i am very happy with it. I will not replace till later maybe after 200k.Re: Age old 1500 vs 2500 debateThe 1/2 tonne has soft suspension. i tow a similar weight with a tundra crewmax. The longest trip i have gone was 2k miles. I do have airbags running 20 PSI as helper springs. I never felt the need for a HD truck as its solid and feels very planted in every situation i have been . I have only 140k and did my first transmission service just now. If you want to upgrade then get what you want. What is up all these wife approving a purchase.Discussion about a house or something big i agree but for a vehicle. That is like me choosing her a minivan thinking it was smart...never again. She replaced with a luxury suv without asking me. Some thing expensive yes we discuss .Re: Need to jack up the rear REALLY high to attach spring barsAirbags. Most SUV suspension is more comfort based then towing heavy loads. So when you hitch to the ball. Too much sag is going on now you are picking up the load to put the bars. I use airbags at 20 PSI as helper springs for WDH and comfort at load. Remember to readjust WDH after inflation and then use the same inflation.Re: Transmission fluid evolution..On my tundra i just did my first transmission service . Drained 4 qt out and out 4 qt in at 140k. Mine is a full sync world ATF and it is suppose to be lifetime. i plan to do it another one in 60k.
