I have NOT read this entire thread as it's getting pretty long on the tooth. I will say we are happy with our truck, currently 126,000 miles on it. I do my own regular maintenance on it changing synthetic oils and filter regularly. Last year, we were hauling our Eaglecap 1160 and heading from NH to AZ when the check engine light came on while in CT. I monitor engine oil and water temps with a scan gauge. When the light came on I checked the code being displayed and it indicated that our turbo was in an under boost situation. I noticed nothing unusual with engine performance or anything else. So we continued into NJ when the the truck went into Limp mode reducing engine output. It was on a Sunday and we started looking for a reliable FORD diesel dealership. We limped to a dealership and they took us in the following morning. They're engine code scan tool revealed and over/under boost on turbo and we'd lost #7 injector. Replaced both at $4K and we were on our way. Never had a problem before. Has been a great truck. Do your research, if you find a used one, get the VIN and do a "OASIS Report" search for warranty work done on it. This will give you a heads up on potential problems on the truck and decide whether or not to walk away from it. My advise is to keep the truck stock (no chip or Edge) and do regular fluid changes. Monitor your engine oil/water temps. Coolant filter is a good idea as well. Good luck with whatever you choose to do. We have enjoyed ours and would recommend it as long as your not trying to hop it up in the horsepower realm.Re: Remove fast guns to level camper?Absolutely or you'll bend or break something.Re: ford dually valve stem issuesJerry, Do you have rubber valve stems on your rims and are you using braided valve extenders? If so theirs your problem. Those rubber valve stems will work back and forth as the wheels rotate causing the air to purge from the wheels. You'll need to get yourself a set of metal valve stems on your rims, they won't wobble back and forth with the extenders attached to them. I had this problem on our Class-C. Changed out the stems and the problem was gone permanently. Good luckRe: What unusual location have you parked overnight at?When we are traveling in our TC, it has turned into a sport to stay in places for free. It's what owning a TC is all about. We traveled the entire length of our country staying only one night in a campground and that was only to escape the heat with hookups. Great thread by the way. Keep it going. Our favorites are Cracker Barrels, Cabelas, and the occasional Flying J's.Re: What mistakes have you made that might help others...?Always check your slide toppers and make sure they have retracted all the way in with the slide. We didn't do that and left before sun up on a 14 degree day after it had snowed. Needless to say I noticed that the topper had frozen in the full open position and was flopping down the side of the camper while we were driving down the interstate. Looked funny as we were driving and the sun was casting our shadow on the roadway while traveling at about 60 MPH! The camper looked as though it had a tumor bulging on the drivers side. We pulled over and the topper had beaten itself to death. We had to cut it off with a pair of scissors so we could continue. Costly mistake.Re: Life with a trailer behind...We tow a 14ft enclosed motorcycle trailer that we will fill with a m/c and other pieces of equipment we think we'll need. TIP: when backing put your hand palm down onto of the bottom of the steering wheel. Move your hand to the right, the trailer will turn to the right. Move your hand to the left, the trailer will move to the left. Don't make sharp turns! Try it. Plan ahead at filling stations. Take your time!Re: Watch the plug punomatic wrote: SugarHillCTD wrote: As I back under the TC, the cord is looped over the front left jack head. When I get the camper close enough to plug it in, I leave the rest of the cord hanging out over the outside of the pickup box. Only once the TC is resting in the bed and the jacks are retracted do I push the rest of the cord into the pickup box. No possibility of the cord ending up under the TC. X2 X3Re: Crossing Into Canada with a FirearmHi, Take the shotgun (declare it) and leave the 9mm at home. They will not permit it's entry into Canada. I'm a retired LEO and we border Canada. I have a fellow LEO friend who was arrested for transporting a handgun into Canada through Customs. Gun was seized and they called QPP (Quebec Provencal Police) and he was arrested. No he didn't declare it, forgot about it. Stupid of him, yes! Even if he had declared it, Canada would not permit it's entry. If your going to Alaska and need the handgun while there, find someone with an FFL (Federal Firearms License) have them ship the handgun to another FFL in Alaska and pick it up while your in Alaska. Do the same process in reverse when it's time for you to return. DO NOT TRY AND TAKE IT INTO CANADA! I spent 4 months training in Canada, duty related, and I couldn't bring a handgun with me! Word to the wise!Re: Truck Air bags fill locationBoth are inside the fuel fill door. Keeps them out of the elements.Re: Towing questionsTo the OP: Be careful using a long extension with it bottoming out. We have a 48" extension and we tow a two place enclosed motorcycle trailer. You really need to pay attention to areas where you can and will bottom out like entering/exiting a road from a business, makes a sound that send cringes up you spine :E
