Shops, wineries, dining.Schoodic Woods Campground/Acadia NP road closedDue to an extreme rain event the road to the Schoodic section of Acadia (Rt 186) is closed. Check the Acadia NP website for updates. Bike paths at Schoodic Woods Campground are also closed. There was also some damage to carriage paths at Acadia on Mt. Desert.Re: Best route from VA to MaineThanks guys, that adds one more good tip to what I found on some other advice threads. Once I'm in MA, I'm good, do the New York State to Maine all summer. It was getting around DC and NYC that I haven't done from coming up from the south. Great advice.Best route from VA to MaineWould like to avoid DC and NYC on 95. I see several options and would like to hear from those of you that have done this trip and have insight. Also, which days of the week might be best for this. Many thanks.Re: Conditions of I-81 thru PAI take 15 both ways going to Florida and back, from the NY border/Corning area. I like the route for the most part. Some slowdowns in the Lewisburg and the next city south of that one but usually not bad. It gives you places to stop if you need to eat or use a restroom. I always stop at the Country Cupboard in Lewisburg, both for the dog's sake and mine. Nice place to stretch while you shop a little, and hit the bakery they have. Also clean restrooms. I join 81 when I get to southern PA border.Re: Tips for people with back painFor years now I have used a rolled up towel- hand towel size, roll up tightly the long way, secure the ends with rubber bands - I place it across my lower back, very low, which helps a great deal when I drive. I tried all the seat cushions, back cushions, you name it and they didn't work. My truck seat has adjustable lumbar, and that doesn't help. The simple rolled towel does the trick and you can adjust its location every so often to alleviate any pain. I think a PT gave me that idea. I stop every two hours so the dog and I can get out and stretch, which also is important. Good luck, I know how miserable back issues can be.Re: ChipmunksI have to ask, are you certain it is a chipmunk and not a red squirrel? Chipmunks burrow in the ground for their homes, never have had one try to get in my house or camper and I have plenty around. Red squirrels are notorious for getting into homes, neighbor had one in theirs. I had mice in the trailer for the first time last summer. Just ordered a new electronic repeller that has the sound plus strobe light to scare them. Reviews were good from people that tried everything else for mice or rats under the hood of their cars. Older ones never did much good.Re: Topper under mattressI put a memory foam mattress topper under my foam mattress in my camper and it has worked out very well. I would caution use of any gel foam pad or topper. I bought a new mattress for home a few years ago and woke up the first night in a sweat and thought I had some fatal illness. Turns out there was a band of gel foam around the middle of the mattress and it did not agree with me. The mattress went back and I will never buy anything with gel foam again.Re: A home electrical question...There is no dimmer switch. Yes, I replaced the old bulb with a LED bulb. I've left it off for a full day and it still glows, visible only at night. I'll try switching it to an incandescent bulb and see what happens. It seems that if a switch is off, it should just be off, but maybe not? As to being a "new" member after 18 years - I somehow lost my original ID and was given a new one. Not being tech savvy enough to get back to my original, I lost my history. Oh well, everyday is a new day.A home electrical question...Thought I'd check here as there are a lot of experts that help out. I bought a place that has a light over a stairway, switch at bottom of stairs, switch at top. I noticed that the light is still on, very dim, when it should be off. I haven't wired a 3 way switch before so don't know what to look for.
