Also, how important is it for a truck campers charging system? My understanding is that truck campers have a very low amp (2-6) charger.Re: what gauge wire between two batteries? DrewE wrote: ... Do be careful to connect the batteries up in a balanced fashion and to do your best to ensure that the two interconnecting cables are the same length and gauge. Wiring them to be balanced means having the positive connection to the camper's systems at one battery and the ground connection at the opposite battery, so that current to or from either battery will travel through exactly one of the two interconnecting leads before getting to the rest of the world. The batteries are identical, 31 grp. Trojan AGM. But the distance from their leads to the rest of the world is obviously different, as they are 10feet apart. I'll be using 4 gauge welding cable. I was planning on simply going from the + to + and - to - of one batter to the other. I'll still do that, but since the original battery in the box, has the ground (I presume), are you suggesting I keep it's negative connection as the ground and use the positive of the new battery in the further box as the positive which will connect to the rest of the world? Trying to clarify this before the install tomorrow. Thanks RazRe: what gauge wire between two batteries? Thanks guys. I'm contemplating whether to bring my Honda eu2000i generator with me as I can't get solar panels installed before my trip. A couple more questions: 1. Anyone know with the above intended uses, how long 2 Grp 31 Trojans AGMs will last? They are rated at 102AH @20hr and 84AH@5hr. 2. How long would it take the Honda to recharge those batteries.? I have the battery cable adaptor for it. Thanks again, RRe: what gauge wire between two batteries?I'm only using it to run the fan, charge my computer and electronics primarily. In the winter, the furnace will be running on occasion. And I may run an external water pump to fill my tank. But no t.v, a/c or microwave for sure. Thanks RRe: what gauge wire between two batteries? Thanks for the info. My batteries are the larger 31 series Trojan Deep Cycle AGM. I'll have to see if they both will fit there. That will require a little more re-wiring than I had hoped for and much bigger holes. If I do end up using 2/0 gauge wire, will I be alright with that sort of distance between the two batteries? Thanks RazRe: what gauge wire between two batteries?I was told by Rex, the head guy at Northstar, that's where a lot of people put the second battery. I was under the assumption that 6 gauge would be ok, but thanks for the heads up. A 2/0 is awfully thick and will require much bigger holes and not sure how well it can bend around tight corners. Can I get away with smaller? Also, I presume the batteries would be discharged evenly and should be hooked up in parallel. Any reason to have them swap positions every so often? Thankswhat gauge wire between two batteries?I'm adding a second AGM battery to my truck camper. It's going to be under the bench seat in the back on the other side from the 1st battery. So their distance will be about at least 10-12 feet from each other. What gauge wire should I use between the batteries? Also, as it will be a Trojan AGM battery, does it need to have a plastic container or be vented in any way? Thanks a bunch for your replies, RazRe: Trip Advice - Vancouver to MoabThanks for the reply guys. I'm actually quite fond of dry, 100+ heat. If it's dry, it's never too hot for me. It's the humidity I can't stand. But I'd like some water access where I can set up a base camp and head on out to the hills for hiking and photography. I've been to the Canyonlands area twice, but the last time was 30 years ago. I remember it being unbelievably beautiful, but also there were lots of shade between the crevasses. I'm essentially looking for two things: 1) How to get there from Vancouver via the scenic route off the beaten path, preferably via Nevada. 2) Once at Canyonlands, where I can park my camper for a week near some water with scenic hiking trails in the vicinity. Thanks again, RazTrip Advice - Vancouver to MoabPlanning a trip next week from Vancouver, BC to Canyonlands, UT and looking for advice on what route to take to really get away from it all without getting too off the beaten track and hitting rough terrain. I've got a Dodge 3500 4x4 SRW Diesel and Northstar Hard side camper and can go most places. I'm pretty adventurous and have done a ton of traveling and and will have an InReach satellite tracker with me. Truck is reliable and I'll have about 3 days water. Should be putting on a solar panel and extra battery too but will need water access after 3 days. Would like info on what route to take that's very scenic and off the beaten path, places to stop on route, cool lakes to hang out for a while and swim, and photographing opportunities and classic hikes. Any info much appreciated.
