Dam tour was great! Any tips on driving 40' Motorhome through the park. Heard there was bus parking right after the museum, but didn't know which entrance best...Castile? Anyone drive a big rig through the park? Heard big rigs should avoid Portage rd on south end. Suggestions? Coming up from Houghton, NY. Thanks!Re: New tires 1fastdad wrote: I bought 6 toyos last fall and so far ( 4K miles later ) I would recomend them. The michelin"s that were on it had a date code of 03 and had several cracks and a belt coming loose with 34K miles on them so I can't complain. I couldn't get a good answer as to when I count get some fresh michlin tires or bridgstones and had th wait 4 weeks for the toyo tires but I got tires that were a week old and a good price. PS I also found that people that recap tires pay a premium price for toyo's because of the quality of the casings. Almost went that route too with Toyos, since they were on from PO. However, Toyo corporate said they *do not* make or engineer their tires for RVs at all anymore (since 2005 IIRC). When I asked about the number of RVs that have Toyos, no answer. She did briefly start explaining the difference in engineering. Toyo rep was very nice and truckers I've talked to, along with the a guy on side of road that repaired a blow out for me, said they use Toyo retreads for trucks all the time. For those interested, feel free to call them yourself and don't take my word for it. Get the facts from the source as opposed to a tire dealer: Toyo customer care Assistance in the U.S.: 800-442-8696. Assistance in Canada: 877-682-8696. Not saying Toyos are bad either, and maybe great for truckers, but decided to get tires from company that makes them specifically for RVs. Oh, did mention to her that there were some old RV links still on the website (from 2004) :)Re: Does having AAA RV Plus work on class A's wny_pat wrote: What ever you do, stay north of Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany Counties, cause their agents will fail you down here if you call to have them tow a Class A rig. They will send a little wrecker from this area that is not large enough to tow you and he will take on look at the size of your motorhome and return to his shop and call the dispatch in Buffalo and tell them that he can't tow you. If your lucky, about 4 hours later maybe a large wrecker from Buffalo will show up for the tow. Thanks for the heads up as I plan on camping in WNY and towards Erie too..hopefully I will never need. :) Maybe I'll even email them proactively to check to see if still an issue.Re: New tires wny_pat wrote: Chaz98 wrote: May also want to check out polishing service/sandblasting of rims if offered at tire place...was well worth it and rims look great. Please, don't sandblast the (rims) wheels! Sandblasting weaken them!!! Source on weakening rims please? BTW, I talking about the inner wheel on the rear duals or any steel wheel for that matter. The 4 Alcoa Aluminums were polished. Most reputable truck tire places in the US offer this service and many farm out to others.Re: New tiresI also did the FMCA Michelin program last month and saved. I did call Toyo corporate as I previously had them on from PO, but the Toyo rep on phone said they really don't make an RV tire, even though some may fit on rig (was curious as I didn't see "RV" on their web site). With FMCA pgm, price came close to the Toyos anyway. May also want to check out polishing service/sandblasting of rims if offered at tire place...was well worth it and rims look great. I'm FMCA also, just recently, and glad to know of that benefit. Of course I can get the same multi year discount with AAA and even more of a discount if I choose "auto-renewal" :C, but will watch threads like this in IRV2, and others, and didn't want to commit to multi-year in case I change my mind next May.Re: Does having AAA RV Plus work on class A's BobGed wrote: Chaz98 wrote: BobGed wrote: With my first coach I had AAA RV Plus. I broke down in Biggs Junction, OR, and had to be towed 136 miles to Bend, OR, which was the nearest qualified repair facility. AAA only covered the first 100 miles. I had to pay $162.00 (36 miles x 4.50 per mile). If I had Coach Net then, as I do now, they would have covered the entire tow charge. Correct, but if you had AAA Premium, to compare apples to apples, AAA would be no charge too. OP asked about AAA RV Plus, and since Coach Net today costs me less than what AAA RV Plus did back then (I can only assume that Premium would be higher yet), I feel I am definitely comparing apples to apples. Also the comfort of knowing that Coach Net will provide coverage any where I travel in the US without the potential territorial issues with AAA is a big plus. If some one feels more comfortable with AAA, then that's fine. I'm not here to argue. Coachnet current price $159 http://www.coach-net.com/Plans/motorized.aspx AAA Premier current price $118 http://westerncentralny.aaa.com/membership ...at least for Upstate NY pricing. Not an AAA fanboy here and don't work for them either, just saw some incorrect info in the thread and providing some facts to help others with decision. I agree with the "anywhere in the US" comment too and I agree that there are many variables that would make up the decision. Heck, if you had multiple family members/kids driving, then I'm sure one of these would be better than the other too :)Re: Does having AAA RV Plus work on class A's wny_pat wrote: TubaPete wrote: Pardon me, but isn't why we have agents? I would call mine instead of asking a bunch of people who may not even have AAA. Pardon me, but my son towed contracted to AAA in the southern tier of western NYS and left many motorhomes sitting on the side of the road because the AAA agent just dispatched a little wrecker to tow a way to big motorhome. So much for your "agents"!!! Each AAA area is different and not all have the RV Plus regardless of what that agent tells you! Will your AAA agent tow a motorhome from Alaska to the lower 48??? Coach-Net has!!! LOL...you are confusing a bad agent with the service provided in the area. I am a Western NY AAA RV Premium member and have been for years. I can confirm they *will* tow a Class A. In my earlier post I even provided one of the tow companies. However, I can confirm that I did have an agent one time attempt to sent the wrong tow truck, but corrected on a follow up call, so I agree there. I have absolutely no plans to take my RV outside the northeast, so I am fine with the coverage here and really don't care now if they will tow it to Hawaii :W If I was retired and traveling across the US and had no other vehicles, I may look at the other offerings. No classic car coverage and no towing to my house (forget which ones-Coach Net or Good Sam) were deal killers as I was looking at other options before I renewed AAA. I liked the unlimited tow option, but after thinking about it, I don't recall any year where I needed more than two tows. Bottom line, depending what you need, either of the three services may work for you, so need to compare all options. Oh, I flew to Alaska and rented a RV with my family a few yrs ago..no need for coverage :)Re: Does having AAA RV Plus work on class A's BobGed wrote: With my first coach I had AAA RV Plus. Other services won't tow my Classic cars if needed, so have been using AAA Premium for 5+ years. Will allow one 200 mile too, then the rest 100 mile, but they *will* tow you home as opposed to the nearest station. Nice compared to the others. I had my Dodge Ram plow truck towed 120 miles home as opposed to the local service place and fixed myself. Not sure why the other posters are saying no on RVs. Call AAA and find out yourself as opposed to some of the incorrect answers. I also see you are from Syracuse (OP). When I last called AAA for my RV, Robby C's from Canastota arrived and did a great job...last time the guy was from Fulton NY, also did a great job and both removed the drive shafts correctly.
