Was a one day job. All rust was repaired and surfaces treated and caulking applied around new windshield - behind the molding- to hopefully keep moisture away from the mounting surface. I was impressed how thorough the job was - never thought of using the caulking but it is a great preventative. With everything in was about 3200.Re: Winnebago Windshield Leak Repair near Madison WIX3 for Duncan RV Repair / Systems in Elkhart. Had my Journey windshield replaced last yr with very significant rust. No issues since. It's worth the trip to Elkart to have it done properly!Re: samsung 197RayChez We had a Samsung197 in our S&B home for four years. Had the defrost issue and posted extensively to another forum on the fix. The issues is an aluminum tab wrapped around the defrost heater below the coil is too short to reach into the drain tube below. The fix is a $4. Part which had the extended tab or wrapping some copper wire in place of the short tab and extending it into the drain. Both are a DIY job however the fridge must defrost as there is likely ice frozen to a foam shroud behind the interior plastic panel will fracture if frozen when trying to remove it. There are no other defrost issues although some might claim the defrost heaters were replaced - likely by repair personnel not satisfied with the commission on a $4 part IMO. While the RF197 is discontinued, Samsung make the RF-18 which is an updated model with a linear compressor that runs continually at variable speed as required so it draws slightly more power than the 197. There are few choices to replace the Norcold if you want a fridge that fits the opening. The Samsung fits almost exactly but might stick out an inch or two in front of the Norcold. I went to an Amish unit but replaced it as the limitations of abortion technology limit its use in really hot weather with the sidewall venting on my coach. I moved the RF 197 from our home to the RV 18 momths ago against my wifes wishes. She will tell you today it was the best change we made to the RV. My advice is to get rid of the Norcold ASAP and you will never look back. Good luck, BobRe: Air brake endorsement - Ontario membersMore bad? news! If or when you are over 65, you have to rewrite the Z endorsement written test when you renew your DL - typically every 5 years. You do not need to repeat the practical Z portion. That test also include testing on hooking up trailer air lines as you are eligible to tow an air brake trailer less than 10,00 lbs with the DZ. Likewise, the location I re-wrote at insisted that I rewrite the "G" written test. Having driven for 50++ years, was hard to recall how far you can park from a hydrant and stuff like that further complicated by metric measures - which I have never loved. Good luck,Re: 2013 Itasca MeridianIf it is a ceiling mounted pot light, the glass lens twists on and off. Best to press upwards while you turn. They are sometimes difficult to get off but don't give up!Re: Garmin got stubbornYou really have to watch how you have programmed route selection - options are fastest or shortest. Shortest will take you down secondary roads to save half a mile. Generally, you want to select fastest. Likewise, you need to insure you have no "Avoidances". These are the cause of many unexpected detours from expected routes. Avoiding tolls will take you hundreds of miles out of your way if you are trying to cross a bridge to get from NY to Ontario. Ask me how I know that!Re: 12V AGM -Size 31 - $179 ??? (Sam's Club)Roy I have had the Duracell group 31 RV/Marine AGMs for almost 2 years. I have had no problems with them and they have been completely maintenance free. I would recommend them to anyone. Might not last as long as other premium brand AGMs but they are made by East Penn who are a very reputable mid line battery manufacturer.Re: winterize sticks and bricks?Agree with the others that turning completely off and draining the water system is first and foremost. I also have a Honeywell thermostat (about $150) that can be accessed over the internet that can be turned on or off, temperature set remotely and emails sent if high or low user defined temperature thresholds are exceeded. I set the thermostat at 56 in the winter and off in the summer and the email thresholds at 55 and 85 respectively. Best thing is being able to turn it on before coming home to walk into a warm house in the winter and a cool one in the summer. Also have 4 D-Link internet cameras that I can remotely access to check the exterior and interior that can also be set to email if motion is detected.Re: Mystery Leak & Inoperative Fridge - related?I had winterized the icemaker last fall leaving the supply hose just loosely attached on my 09 Journey. I had turned off the supply at the needle valve below the sink and made sure it was tightly closed. The valve failed and produced a continual drip in the outside compartment that ran down and into the carpet under the cabinets on both sides of the fridge. Check your needle valve as they appear to fail with over-tightening and insure water isn't getting past it.Re: My new Garmin RV760LMT - I have questions? The GPS has the LM (Lifetime Maps) designation so it can be sold with or without the traffic capability contained in the cord. It was a smart move by Garmin building the traffic feature into the cord . I believe it can be added to most recent Garmin Automotive GPSs with the purchase of a cord with the traffic feature. From a consumer perspective, if for any reason the traffic receiver fails - you just need purchase a new cord and not the complete unit.
