About 50 miles south of the South Rim. It's free. Might need jackets, lol. Take gloves, good hiking shoes/boots and flashlights; at least one for each person as there is zero lighting. You can also boondock in the national forest in that area. https://www.flagstaff.com/lava-tubesRe: Our View at Anchor DownLove your screen name 1Adam12 :) I like everything from Walmart to Ft Wilderness...variety. Florida flatlanders like my self love views of mountains, large hills and no trees to block the views.Re: Justifying Fort WildernessThe cost of food alone (for my family of 5) makes camping cheaper, even at FW prices. If you have a flexible calendar, you can get $60 FH prices. My kids enjoy the campground more than the parks. We go just for the campground and haven't been to Disney parks in 5-6 years.Re: Bryce Canyon N.P. sights to see and where to stayMy family could easily stay a week at Rubys. At 8,000 ft, heat wasn't an issue. Great views, beautiful hikes, ATV and horse rentals have views of the canyon. The night sky is amazing. We stayed 4 nights last year in July and wanted more.Re: Need Gulf coast recommendationsTop Sail meets your criteria. They have cabins for your friends. The beach is .75 to a mile from the campground along a nice road in the woods. You can walk, bike or take the tram back and forth. Henderson Beach is more rustic but in town so friends can stay at a nearby hotel.Re: Zion to I-40 east eventuallyThink that sounds like a plan. We might hit the sand dunes, if not, the route will be different scenery.Re: Zion to I-40 east eventuallyI've pondered that route before. How are the mountain grades on 160?Re: Gatlinburg to Sarasota441 to Macon and then I-75 south which gets packed in Florida. Its moves to Tampa unless there is accident. try to plan Tampa outside of rush hour. I cruise at 60 with our 37 ft 5th.Re: Flagstaff to Florida in the Winter?!We just did the reverse and am heading back tomorrow. We plan on taking I-40 straight to Memphis, then 22 to Birmingham, 20 to Atlanta bypass to 75 south. We have friends in Flagstaff who use this route alot. We came out 10 to 20 to 40 and the roads in LA are terrible (10 south and 20 in Shreveport).Zion to I-40 east eventuallyLooking for a last minute idea for a good route from Mt. Carmel UT (just east of Zion), to I-40 east maybe hook up in NM. We came up I-40 to US 89 via Paige and am exploring other ideas to catch a site or two heading back to Florida. Being August, high elevation would be great. We were on UT 14 today and it snowed mid afternoon. :)
