All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: YellowstoneI'm in the same boat headed to West Yellowstone and have been watching inciweb closely. Not a lot of updated info there on the Maple Fire though of late. I'm not doing the south end , but its still a concernRe: Mt Rushmore to Yellowstone mid SeptWe are doing a similar trip at the same time. We'll be at Custer State park, then migrate north to Devils Tower, then to Little Big Horn. From there we will swing north on I-90 going around the north end of the Bighorn Mountains, then 212 to 310 to 72 to 120 into Cody and over to Buffalo Bill State Park. From there we will move west through the east entrance to the park, across the park and land at West yellowstone mid September. (If the fires will allow us to pass and get there???) I plan on fueling along I90 at Spearfish, then likely up around Sheridan, then again at Cody (maybe one more spot in between.) Cody will get me into West Yellowstone for refuel. I've never had problems refueling in towns this time of year along this route. I don't anticipate any problems on that route. I'm staying out of the Bighorns with my rig as I've done them before- and while the sights are beautiful the grades are just way too intense for me. Safe Travels JoeRe: Oman 5500 only runs for 10 seconds and shuts off?Urge you change the fuel filter and have a fuel pump on standby maybeRe: towing thru Big Horn Mountains in WyomingI did it in a truck camper 2 years ago on alternate 14 and that was enough for me. I understand 16 is much more forgiving and I am contemplating doing it in a motorhome this year. The scenery on 14 alternate is awesome but the grades are----- well lets just say I left my finger prints indented in the steering wheel. I never though I'd sweat any power issues in that pick up with a slide on camper having just finished the Alaska Hiway run in it. I found out otherwise when I started running low on gears to use to get up that grade! I'd do it in a car again but never Alternate 14 with anything that has any load. I may try 16 this year though.Re: Recommendation for a CG in Hiawassee, GaThumbs up for Riverbend for us. Love the place- nice quiet setting near town and Brasstown Bald. Got our 40 footer and toad in easy- plenty of pull through sites and well maintained. Sits on the river (some sites front)Re: Driving a class A vs. TrailersNow on our 8th RV. 3 of them have been trailers. I've enjoyed operating both our moho's and the trailers (not so much the 5ver). The only one I was never comfortable with was the 5th wheel. Even though I had it matched well for my tow vehicle it always seemed as though I had too much mass behind me-- and a couple of times went through some red lights in wet weather when I could not stop. While it was comfortable for living it just wasn't as comfortable when driving as the Class A's and C we owned. The A we now have has been the most comfortable and is easy to drive. A's (or C's) are much easier to get into a back-in site or driveway than trailers. The A is easier with our dogs and give the DW the option of moving around a bit in travel. Its always cool with the A/c running, when the trailers were always hot during the summer. And it always has power with the genny running. Yes maintenance costs are higher with the A. Like trailering, situational awareness and spacing are essential in an A. After making sure I had made all the steering safety and control adjustments possible we like it better than cruising in a car and far better than trailering. We drove our TC from GA to Alaska in 2014 and were ready to kick the doors off the pick up after 7 weeks of travel.Last year we drove it in a class A. Visibility and overall comfort in the A made for a great trip. Loved every minute of the A trip and could have gone longer than the 8 weeks we took.Re: URGENT - where to buy a car dolly?Click here for American Car Dolly Suggest you might want to look at this well built dolly. They delivered mine (included in price). See if they are currently delivering around Buffalo or up that way and if they have an extra in stock. Great price and a very stout set upRe: Rite of passage, first blow outdelete- in wrong thread.Re: Suggestions for making my F53 a little easier to drive Philip.Saran wrote: .... I was told the Cheap quick fix "can" break the links, has anyone had that problem? Have run the CHF on the two rigs I've had during the past 3 years -- over 20,000 miles- Florida to Alaska and back- and all over the eastern US. Been on some wicked roads in those journeys. The only thing that happened was I had much better control and safer drive. ---- and I didn't spend a dime making the change.Re: Suggestions for making my F53 a little easier to driveIf you have not done the "Cheap Handling Fix" as noted on the Ford Chassis forum in IRV2, you may want to consider it. I made the modification- which one can do at home with just a few tools- in less than an hour on each of the last 2 F-53 motorhome chassis we've owned. It really made all the difference in the world and put us back in control of our wiggle wagons and "tamed the beasts". Check it out.
