All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Truck Camping Site MapThanks XPD. That is the true point of this - I want people to find sites close to them that they've never heard of. And JMtandem, you might have those resources - but how do you know if they're a good site? Atleast with these, you have a recommendation - and why. Also, regardless of whether other people want to use this, I am making it for myself - for my own reference and notes, so if someone else wants to benefit from it, fantastic. XPD, you can post them here or send them to me by PM and I will add them.Re: Truck Camping Site MapCould be. The biggest benefit will be the recommended campsites and campgrounds. I could care less about the restricted/prohibitive sites - but they're there as a feature.Truck Camping Site MapI am working on a Google Map designed for Truck Campers. It could be used by TT's and such as well, but mainly designed for TCs. As such, I am looking to add sites to this that are: Off limits to TC (I'd hate to pull up to a site at 6pm to find that I can't even go there) Prohibitive to TC (Perhaps they won't let you remove the TC, but it's a lovely campground) Recommended Campgrounds & Boondocking locations. Please post them below, or PM them to me. You can see what I have so far, here: Google Map - TCRe: Newbie Qs about Trucks, Campers and WivesI am still working full time, so I cannot take the 3-4 week trips like some people do (and I would love to!). But I take alot of the out and back trips, and I'm relatively new at this. I started looking for a unit in June 15' and started my research. I called dealers, but no one really wanted to talk to me, so I went to a RV Show, and another, and then drug my wife to one. I wanted her to see what I had, and to tell me what she liked and didn't like in these units. My wife wouldn't accept anything smaller than one of the Lance Mid-Bath Dry Bath models (which of course, is the largest one). So I had basically two choices. I settled on the 1172. I showed her this unit at a dealer, and we were pretty much set. Then I played the waiting game trying to find one used for a good price and taken care of. That came to fruition in November this year. Keeping that in mind, my truck & my 1172 were under $70k. So you can get ALOT of truck and ALOT of camper for the buck, as long as you don't buy new on both. As part of our research, we also rented a 25 foot trailer to see if we liked it, and we did a 8 day trip through the BRP and some of the mountains of NC, VA. My wife liked it, but was worried a TC would be too small. We felt a little confined by a trailer because you couldn't necessarily park it easily in a parking lot without drawing a lot of attention. My wife didn't have complete buy in for the TC until we took our first trip. Now she really likes it. Before, she didn't think we'd really use it that much. My TC has two slides, a full bath, and full kitchen. It's a little smaller than the trailer (by only about 5 feet) but the space is much better organized, and we feel that it's even more open than the trailer was. You can see my truck, and my 1172, here: Marathon Trip My Lance 1172Re: Older Florida Sunpass may not work after 12/31Florida doesn't ticket anymore unless you have ALOT of unpaid tickets, or you never pay it. They just create an account and charge it to your mailing address and license plate. They do accrue interest though - some people have $10,000 bills because they have never paid a toll.Re: 3/4 ton truck suggestions for 4x4 truck campingI liked the Ford bodystyling more than my Silverado 3500 Dually, but the price won me over. Someone's kid was selling it because it was his father's and he couldn't drive anymore. Personally I don't buy new vehicles, as I'll let someone else take the hit, but that depends if you can find a good one. Also, as has been said multiple times here - find the camper you want, and then the truck to match.Re: camping at miami homestead speedwaayIn the past Homestead was always lightly attended, but that has slightly increased with the way they've changed the points. You shouldn't have any problems finding a space, there is plenty typically.Re: slide or not to slideI wouldn't drop my slides for anything, and my DW wouldn't come if we didn't have slides. I can't access the camper without atleast 1 slide out due to the design, but that doesn't change anything for me personally. The only thing I might do is run a relay for the remote activation button so that I can put in / put out the slides while still in bed.Re: Older Florida Sunpass may not work after 12/31They will also replace the old ones for free - I don't know if they still are doing this, but you could always go to a toll service area (or toll plaza) and pick a new one up with a credit towards the price.Re: Taking DeliveryI did most of the work myself - installed all the TL tiedowns, etc. The dealer installed the bed plug - charged me 1 hour of labor and the part. So not horrible. I also just installed the big wig front and rear sway bars, myself - although it took me a little longer than most people probably do. DB, those are the manual disconnects for the Solar panels - since this is a used unit, the guy before me installed solar and put these in so he could disconnect the panels or batteries at any point by just flipping a switch. He also installed this solar controller and the fuses. Not sure I'll ever use them, but I suppose in a bad situation it would be good to quickly do it.
