The mosquito fear is being overdone. Yes they are around now, but already starting to fade. By August, no big deal. Staying at the rec park in Grand Marais right on Lake Superior is wonderful. Temps in Aug will likely be in the low 80's max, more likely in the 70's by the lake. Overnite lows 40/50's. With the cold winter we just had, and Lake Superior nearly freezing over completely, camping next to it will be cool. The entire town is easily seen on foot, and much to see there is. We also love the UP and go there at every opportunity. . They could have been referring to Grand Marais, Michigan as well....Re: Walking through campsites spoon059 wrote: Jack_Diane_Freedom wrote: spoon059 why would you even have dogs that bark viciously and bite. Sounds like a lawsuit about to happen. Being aggressive is not really a solution. C'mon these are campsites. How is this a lawsuit? If it is clearly posted in the rules and I am outside with my dog on a site that I paid for and someone violates the rules and gets bitten, that is on them. Same as if they come to my house and walk into the back yard where my dogs are contained by an electric fence and get bitten. Come on to my property (if I pay for the site, it is MY property at that time) and into my dog's space, that is YOUR liability. If you don't like it, you can avoid walking through my site. JaxDad... that applies to you too =) In a common sense reality, you might be correct. In our reality, the law also protects the criminals and the criminally stupid. If someone climbed over YOUR fence on YOUR property, trip and fall in the hole you have dug up in the yard, the trespasser can sue you and win. It makes no difference that they are trespassing, you can still be held liable for any injuries they sustain, even if they're trying to break into your home. Is it right to protect the criminals? I don't think so, but the law is the law. And AFAIK, that applies in MOST areas, but maybe not all.Re: U/P Michigan or Minnesota? Allworth wrote: The UP. There are city run FHU parks at Munising (sp?) for Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and at Houghton for Copper Country. At Munising the rear of the fiver was hanging out over the Lake Superior beach with glorious sunsets. At Houghton you are on a bluff overlooking the boat traffic in the Portage Canal. Lots of other neat places (The Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point? Gordon Lightfoot, anyone??) but those two stand out. Don't forget the Valley Camp museum ship at Sault Saint Marie (MI, not ON) that has one of the Edmund Fitzgerald's lifeboats and life jackets as well - if you're interested in ships and shipwrecks like I am. As to the original question - "Say Yah to da UP, eh?"Re: Sansui TV Dead First Day And the new one from Walmart will probably fail too. I finally got sick of returning their chinese junk. Good point - I wouldn't buy Chinese junk from WalMart when I can buy the same Chinese junk from Best Buy....Face it - most consumer electronics now are made in China, Korea, Taiwan, etc., NO MATTER WHAT BRAND OR WHERE SOLD. Not just WalMart - it's every retailer. WalMart, Target, Best Buy, K-Mart, Sears, Sam's CLub, Costco - they all sell the same brands made in the same place.Re: Excess heat in bunk above outdoor kitchen.. Francesca Knowles wrote: It's the fridge, which makes heat to "cool", however bizarre that fact always seems to me. Heat rises, and that's the point. Fix is shielding as suggested OR turning it off when sleeping- which last might be the simplest thing to do, since you probably only need the bunk at night. Things in the fridge will keep just fine for eight hours or so without the fridge actually powered up. Granted that an ammonia fridge is different, but all "cooling" appliances create heat in some way, and the process of cooling is really a matter of heat transfer. The term "cold" is really the absence of heat - your home fridge and A/C units all create heat by way of the compressors and fan motors generating heat as a byproduct of performing work. The refrigerant creates "cold" by transferring heat from one space to another. This is also how a heat pump can heat a home (within limits) - by removing latent heat from the outdoors and transferring it indoors.Re: After all these years.... I have driven in 44 of the states . I think I have to give Michigan the trophy for the worst roads out of those 44 . The next worse were in Pennsylvania , although there were some good roads in PA . My judgement about Michigan is further tainted by their " no fault " insurance law . If somebody hits you , you get to pay for your own car repairs . We got rear ended while at a stoplight . We were stationary . Ann Arbor about 5 pm . An officer arrived and explained to me about the " no fault " policy . Not fair in this particular case . There was a car immediately in front of me and I could not go if I wanted to . Other than that Michigan does have redeeming virtues , of course . BTW . The best roads we encountered were in North Carolina . I presume some crooked politician robbed the federal tax dollars from the Michigan-ers and gave the highway funds to his home state of NC . I'd have to disagree on a few points. Having lived in Ann Arbor for 15 years, I can attest to the fact that their drivers are idiots. That being said, the craters on I94 may be bad, but I think I69 through Indiana and the Ohio Turnpike (I80) have most of Michigan's roads beaten. I remember a statistic when I lived in MI which stated the state used 23 tons of salt per mile every winter. 23 tons per mile????? No wonder cars tended to rot out in 5-6 years if not taken care of and washed frequently. And since moving to Colorado, I have found that outside of mountainous areas, they know NOTHING about winter road maintenance here. A quick plowing if more than 6 inches of snow and hope for the best......Re: Towing VehicleAlso hoping the Ody doesn't have the automatic self-destruct 5 speed transmission - this is a well known failure requiring transmission replacement - on vehicles that aren't towing either. Can only imagine how much towing will accelerate the wear. I would get the largest trans cooler that will fit to keep it cool.Re: Removing underbelly material, what might I be getting into? You can do more research on it as well online. The correct name of the product is Coroplast (short for Corrugated Plastic)
