I’m assuming they are still in business. New ownership apparently and sounds like the service is much better overall but I left a message last week and never heard back. I'll just have to keep trying.Re: Black tank leaked. What to do? valhalla360 wrote: No rot no stink...it doesn't need to be replaced...unless you need to cut it out to remove the tank. Unless you are trying to repurpose the space the tank sits in, you might just leave it if you were able to fully drain it. We had a composter on our boat. For a full size RV (with functional tanks), I would not recommend it. For a truck camper with a small tank, it's a good option. Easier to deal with than a cassette, which we've used on rental RVs and the solids tank on ours could handle a month with 2 people using it. The big thing is the smell. Other than a slightly earthy garden smell when emptying, no smells. The urine can be disposed of in any toilet. The 2 gallon tank is easier to carry and pour than a cassette. Thanks. Eventually I'd like to replace the black tank with a second fresh water tank but that can wait. Glad to hear your experience was overall positive. We don't have a dump site that is terribly convenient to our house, we frequently go winter camping and I hate dealing with the black tank during winter so I'm dead set on the composter. It literally cannot be any worse.Re: Black tank leaked. What to do? Anyone know how to drop the bottom out of an Outfitter?Black tank leaked. What to do?So our black tank leaked on our last trip and cut it short. Planning on switching to a composting toilet so we just don't need to deal with the black tank at all any more but my question is do we need to replace the bottom of the camper? It's an Outfitter Juno 10 so the black tank was in the basement and the bottom is marine grade plywood. Everything dried out and doesn't have an odor any more but do we need to get it replaced? I'm assuming I'm not the first one this has happened to. :)Re: Outfitter's New Molded Fiberglass Body for the Apex 8 Camper Porkchopexpress wrote: joerg68 wrote: @Porkchopexpress: You say you live "West". Any chance for a trip to Colorado to visit Outfitter (and Hallmark, while you are close by anyway)? Well worth the visit, Rocky Mtn NP is close by. I haven't heard or seen any of the new models either. We sold our 2011 Apex in 2015 for reasons unrelated to the camper and I have not followed the popup camper market closely since. My profile is out of date. I currently live in Florida and will be going to the Tampa RV show next week. I will look at the Northern Lite and anything else that interests me. I will probably fly out to Denver in a few weeks or so to see an Outfitter and maybe Hallmark, but the elevated wet bath in the Hallmark would probably be a problem for me. The 76" headroom might be a problem on the Northern Lite. On paper the Outfitter Apex seems like the best option but I definitely wouldn't commit to such a big purchase sight unseen. We have a Juno 10 that was either the first or second year after they started doing the molded fiberglass bodies. No complaints here. It's held up very nicely. Only thing I don't like is that the table is hard to store, too tall (even though I'm 6'2"), awkward positioning. Pretty sure they use Lagun tables now and I'm probably going to upgrade ours sometime.Re: Revisiting pop-up campersWe have a Juno 10 and a diesel and live in Colorado. The diesel may be overkill but it is oh so nice going over those mountain passes. If our furnace or water heater ever die I'll be looking into replacing them with a webasto knockoff so we don't need to worry about propane any more. Very happy w/ our Outfitter. We've had a wet bath in both our truck campers and would recommend without hesitation. It's so dry here there's no issues getting it dried out quick.Re: Would you buy diesel again? We got our Nissan Leaf over 2 years ago $16k out the door after the dealer and manufacturer incentives as well as the fed and state tax credits. I never want to own an internal combustion engine again. Electric is so much more fun to drive, especially in the mountains. I can't wait for that tech to advance into trucks.Re: Cold Weather CampingThere's not too many places where it can get too cold to camp. I believe the coldest we've been out in was -18F. No water lines froze but but the brackets that connected to the exterior were getting a solid layer of ice on the inside. We did get a used 2003 Outfitter Apex (I think) it was the 9'5" model what ever that is. The camper was ok, but the mfg. is not. Had an issue and they just said too bad, go some where else. We got your money. Actually they did not say that, but they just as well did when they told me it was not their problem, to go somewhere else for help. Also Northstar would be a good one. If money is an issue you might consider Palomino, probably not as well made, but way less money. A lot more for the dollar. Good luck. Very sad to hear this bad thing about Outfitter. It is not the first time i have read bad things about Outfitter. Have yet to read any seriously bad things about Hallmark or ATC or FWC..... for what that is worth. I think you need to take "bad things about Outfitter" with a grain of salt. You can read bad things about every truck camper sold. And you can read good things too. I hope you take into consideration who wrote the bad things about Outfitter and why they wrote them. My experience with Outfitter has been very good since 2004. That's 14 years. Read that. Outfitter has provided us with amazing customer service. We had an issue with our roof and they fixed it under warranty even though we didn't buy it new from them. Our water pump wasn't working after winter and Bob helped me troubleshoot it. I'm extremely happy with our Outfitter.Re: Best quality, design, finish & warranty support in Pop Up? They built exactly what I wanted in 2007 and have been excellent with answering occasional questions and giving advice when requested. Have not needed any repairs, just maintenance -- and the camper has often been many miles off of anything resembling a road. However, my Apex 8 model is over 2500 lb fully loaded (4 heavy batteries and 44 gallons of water), and I would not try to carry it on any 150/1500 truck. They do make top quality, lighter weight models for lighter trucks. Nice to here from some of you old timers with the Outfitters. Glad to here good about Outfitter. I really like the new molded fiberglass. Have you heard anything good or bad about the new molded bodies? How has your camper been holding up structural wise? We've had a Juno 10 with the new molded fiberglass body for almost 3 years. It's been through plenty and still looks new. We love it. Let me know if you want to know anything specific.
