A few posts back, there was a mention of generators with the 240 v twist lock not having the ground terminal wired. My Champion "RV" has both the ground and the neutral of the 240v twist lock wired. However,I have a second generator that has a 240v twist lock. The neutral leg of the receptacle is wired but the ground leg is not wired. Do I need to tie the two (neutral and ground)together? I want to be able to use it for an emergency home generator, after I get a safety disconnect switch installed, of course. I was surprised at the lack of the ground terminal not being wired. I also bring this up for general info because if one was to plug in, say a 240v welder with three wires, ground, and the two 120v leads, it would lack a ground and a neutral connection. There may be other gen sets out there with the ground not being wired on the 240v twist lock..... Thanks, JIMRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Just received a Cabella's flyer a couple days ago. They had the Champion RV model for $299. club price, If I remember correctly, the shipping was only $ 18.00.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.WOW, this forum just doesn't quit. I have an electrical wiring question re: the L14-30 plug. In addition to the Champion C46540 gen, I have a Generac. I replaced the 220 v receptacle on the Generac with an L14-30 so both generators could be used with the same cord sets. I found that the Generac 220 v plug did not use the "ground" terminal at all, just the neutral and the two 120's. I have a welder that has three wires only, and I was told to use the "ground" plus the two hots and forget the Neutral terminal. Does the Champion L14-30 use the ground or neutral or both?? Can I plug the three wire plug from the welder, which uses the neutral and not the ground terminal (due to the Generac wiring), into the Champion??? Thanks, JIM Since I posted, I opened up the Champion and found that they wire all four terminals of the L14-30. So my question is, if I wire the three wires of the welder plug 120,120 + neutral, is that safe and correct?? I don't understand why the Generac does not use the ground terminal on their 220v plug.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Professor, Great news on the soundproof kit. It seems like a no-brainer. It should sell very well, both as an upgrade and original model. If Champion does not get it to market very soon, one of their competitors probably will. JIMRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Hi Rey, I live in an area that has pretty wide temp swings, so I will go with the 10w-30. Also, due to a far less build up of hydrocarbons, I prefer a synthetic like "Mobil 1", after the initial break in period. I intend to change the oil frequently enough to lessen the level of contaminents. This is only my opinion and is based only on my experience with synthetic oils over a few decades of use in both small and large engines. JIMRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.I agree with the Professor. I think either of the gersets are a good choice. It may come down to cost. The Champion plus shipping and the Pro 3500 plus the cost of a pigtail or adapter. I prefer not to use any adapters, especially in damp weather. I have also had extra heat from resistance in the area of the plug of the adapter. For me, I'd pay a little extra to avoid the use of an adapter. If the gen's were equal. JIMRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Hi Pilot... Love those 182's Sorry about the extra shipping charges. An option to get it without the shipping charges, is to call your LOCAL Kragen, Checker, Schuck's, or Advance Auto Supply, and order the item number. Works over the phone or in person. As an example, I just called a Seattle area Schucks and they can have it in their store in 3-4 days (weekend) and they pick up the shipping charges. Confirmed tonite and in stock.. Most of my time was in 172's JIMRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Hi Rey, Yes, I did order online. I picked it up and the picture is of my unit. The item number in the post is correct. On the Kragen site, do not click on generators. Just enter the part #C46540 in the search box. Put it in your shopping basket, it will ask for your zip code. It will then locate a nearby parts store where you can pick it up. NOT JUST KRAGEN, several regional parts stores all over the country. 1-2 day delivery. It is now listed @ $299.00. Be careful, they still are selling the old one at the same price. The OLD generator in part #C46535.... JIMRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.NEW RV PLUG GENSET!! NO NEED TO REWIRE. I'm a newbe with this forum thing, so I hope I can get a picture to upload. I just picked up one of the new Champion RV model 3500 watt Gensets. I have been following the forum and was about to get the regular model and do the wiring mod. I called Champion Tech and was told that it hadn't shipped as yet, and they could not advise when it would. I later talked to their phone operator. She said it had been shipping for two weeks to the Kragen Auto Parts group. She was able to advise the new part # C46540. I checked with Kragen online searching the part number and there it was. No picture yet, but ships in 24 hours. Im happy, it has a 120-240 switch and of course the 30 Amp RV style plug (29.6amps:)). Also, 240 twist lock, separate 120 and the 12v. Well, I hope the picture follows correctly... JIM
