All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Falcon 2 tow bar frozen in RETRACTED positionSorry for the delay reporting back. My solution was the brute force method. Note that my problem was arms NOT EXTENDING. They were frozen in the RETRACTED position. This is an extreme case. I don't ever plan to retract them. They'll stay extended unless I send them in for a rebuild. * Removed the square rubber caps at the base of the arms. * Liberally soaked the rods with WD40 * Used an aluminum rod (so it would be softer than the steel of the towbar). * With a 5 lb sledge hammer I drove the towbar arms out until they locked in place. Of course this made it difficult to jockey the car so that the towbar could be attached. No, I don't recommend this, but it worked for me.Re: Falcon 2 tow bar frozen in RETRACTED positionMy problem is the opposite, it's stuck retracted (likely from rust). I found a rebuild manual which helps me understand what's going on inside. Covers Falcon 2 and Blackhawk, I don't think it covers the All-Terain http://roadmasterinc.com/pdf/85-5011-03.pdfFalcon 2 tow bar frozen in RETRACTED positionMy tow bar has been stored over a year in the retracted position. The tow rods won't extend. I soaked them overnight with wd40 and plan to employ a hammer and rod if there are no other ideas. Has anyone been in this situation? If so, what was your solution?Re: route 101 ore ?I had forgotten the tunnel! Should be no problem. Good advice about Fridays. Also fueling up in Oregon, cheaper and keeps you from having to look for fuel in small stations. Several links on here to pics from one of our trips, southern Oregon, Northern California. http://www.macandchris.com/8-06-blog.htm Happy travels!Re: route 101 ore ?101 south through Oregon is a wonderful trip. You'll have no problem with a 28' Class C and a toad. We've done all or part of it in a 37 and a 40 footer with toad. There are only a few steep grades, and those are very short. There are a few curvy sections but nothing to worry about. Scenery most of the way is beautiful and if you're like us it will take you all day to travel 100 miles between stopping at scenic viewpoints, interesting little shops and restaurants, walking on the beach. Etc. Regarding the Redwoods, you may want to keep going south after Crescent City. 101 passes through Redwoods State Park, Redwoods National Park, and Humbolt Redwoods Park. Happy Travels!Re: Longest interconnect battery cables? If I'm visualizing this correctly the two original batteries are in between this area right? So the distance from one of these new battery boxes to the closest original battery would be shorter than the distance to the other new battery box, correct? Maybe only 2 feet for example? If that is true, then the best way to connect would be to pair up each new box with the closest original box. If your current batteries are less than a year old and in very good condition you could keep them paired and move one to the nearest new box, then put two new batteries of the same size and brand in the other pair of boxes. Otherwise four new batteries are the way to go because weaker batteries will decrease the life of the new. Happy Travels!Re: Travel Trailer with Twin Beds? Thanks for the tips all!Re: Travel Trailer with Twin Beds? Thanks Bob. Unfortunately FX17 is too short, FX225 has a queen bed plus the twins, looking for just the two twins. But thanks again, food for thought.Travel Trailer with Twin Beds?Does anyone other than Airstream still make a TT over 19' (maybe 22 to 26) with twin beds instead of a queen? NOT a bunkhouse. How about in the last 5 years? I know there have to be some out there but visiting a lot of manufacturer's sites and not finding any. Thanks!Re: Heading south for the first timeI would agree with others that say "go west young man" because we love it out there, but Summer-Fall is our Western swing and we live in Florida in the winter (actually year round now since we're off the road for a while but that's another story). If you stick with the Southeast, when you're sure of the locations you want to visit start calling and make reservations. Good parks fill up fast. Also remember that it can be fairly chilly in FL in Dec/Jan/Feb. We live in the Tampa area and Christmas day might just as easily be 40 low 50 high and raining as 50 low 80 high and sunny! Are you members of anything that will get you into parks that are "members only" For example, military retiree? Escapees club member? other camping clubs? Flexibility will help you enjoy the trip. Good luck and happy travels!
