But on many nights of camping in the high teens and low 20s, we have had no freezing at all, even though our trailer is not really "four-season" rated. I put some insulation (reflectix) underneath, and it seems to do the trick. After that one really cold night, we just left the breakfast dishes in the sink, went hiking, and came back in the afternoon to find that the ice had thawed -- hurrah! We figured out later that the outlet pipe leading from the fresh water tank to the pump was the problem. The next few nights were around 20, and we had no more trouble. But just to be safe, I am intending to add some real insulation (a layer of solid extruded foam), with a layer of coroplast under that for protection. That is my next big project! Here is a shot from another really cold trip -- we were boondocking at 9500 feet in the Eastern Sierra, and the wind was so strong that I had to park the truck right next to the water heater so that the wind would not blow out the flame: Sounds miserable, right? Nope -- nothing is so wonderful as boondocking in bad weather, buttoned up inside a comfortable (albeit small) RV! Thanks for the info about how you insulated it.I will pass this info on to the DH.Re: Need places to park RV while taking cruises--out of TX :?Does Jamaica Beach RV Resort have an 'overflow' parking area where we could just park our camper when we do not need a campsite? Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Would love to get more.Need places to park RV while taking cruises--out of TXDH and I are planning on doing a long extended trip down to TX...planning on taking a couple of cruises out of TX-Galveston/Houston area.:? We need suggestion where we can *just* park the trailer and possibly stay before/after cruises and then leave our camper there. We could park it or if a great campground/state park, etc. has an area to park with us staying before/after while we are cruising that would be Great. We really love the TX area and want to spend more time in the state parks camping there during the fall. Please, full timers---give us some suggestions. We are new at this and want to enjoy our time on the cruises and know our trailer is safe while we are on the 'high seas'. Thanks in advance!Re: Your Favorite Boondocking Pics profdant139 wrote: East Fork of the Cimarron River, Colorado, October 1, 2015: Great spot! We have been really lucky here in CO....so far....with warm weather this far in the 'fall'.Re: Your Favorite Boondocking Pics profdant139 wrote: November, 2015 -- this is darn close to boondocking, but not quite. We were at Lodgepole Campground in Sequoia National Park. The rangers let us park in the parking lot next to the river -- the campground itself was not open to RVs, and there was nobody else in the whole campground but us. This is the morning after a six inch snowfall: WOW! That is great view! I gather you do not use any of your plumbing/RV water but just use container H2O for drinking/cooking/washing, etc. or else your pipes would free...right?:?Campgrounds in Long Beach CA long term rates....The DH and I have bought (1 year ago) a Hybrid Travel Trailer and want to go on a long road trip out west to visit friends. We also want to take a few cruises out of CA---Los Angles, Long Beach, San Pedro area. We were wondering if anyone had suggestion on campgrounds that have long term rates. If so, please post your suggestions. We would also like suggestions of campgrounds within a couple of hours from the cruise ports....might be nicer campgrounds and cheaper. Thanks in advance.Re: post pictures of your HTT kknowlton wrote: Wow, quite a change, monakayk! Very nice. Thanks...we will be taking *her* out this weekend. This type of bedding really appeals to me.Re: What do you put in your beds...sheets? Merrykalia wrote: When we had our HTT, we used a memory foam topper, fitted sheet, then top sheet and blanket. We used the stretchy hooks that attached under the mattress. As long as the mattress stayed in place, the bed clothes stayed on. Worked for us for 3 years. Sheet Keepers - this is what we used. WOW...thanks for the suggestion on these 'sheet garders' as we call them. I have them on our beds at home and didn't even think about using them in the RV. BTW...we have a king and queen bed in the RV. And when the beds were closed up..it looked like part of the mattress had to be taken off the bed frame part...and then placed in front of the other part of the mattress. How would sheets work with that? I guess we could fold the smaller mattress toward the larger mattress and then the sheets would be folded inside both mattress when we put the strap (that holds the mattress in place) over them? What do you put in your beds...sheets?:@What do you put in your beds...sheets or sleeping bags? I really would rather sleep on sheets with a blanket over them, but when we close up the bed....won't all that fall on the floor? Any suggestions how you keep the bedding on the bed, when the beds are closed would be very helpful. We just bought a HTT and need to figure out this stuff. Thanks in advance.
