All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Waterton & Lake Louise early May.????Yes I know, but Profdant post talked about driving north from Waterton to Lake Louise and visiting Peter Lougheed. The OP wants to do this in MAY The only way to do this at this time is to take Hwy 22 from Lundbreck all the way via Bragg Ck to Junc.161 on Hwy 1 then east to Seebe and then south on Hwy 40 to Peter Lougheed. Hwy 40 south of Peter Lougheed is closed till 14 June, when you are likely to see quite a bit of snow over Highwood Pass. BTW. At PL campgrounds don't open till 11 May. But Mt Kidd RV Park (25 km north of PL) is open year round. Regarding the weather, you have to take your chances I am afraid, we have seen Bow Lake iced over in early June and snow at Saskatchewan River Crossing on the Icefield Parkway on mid-summer day, 21 June.Re: Waterton & Lake Louise early May.????Yes Peter Lougheed, is great, but it is very difficult to get to if you are travelling from Waterton early in the year since the direct route( Highway 40 ) is closed from Highwood Junction to Peter Lougheed until 14 June. So you would have to drive south from Highway 1. You will now also have to buy a Kananaskis Park pass to get to Peter Lougheed Park.Re: Icefields Parkway first week in JuneBear in mind the temperature will be low so you will probably need hookups. Only Tunnel Mountain (Banff) , Lake Louise, and Whistlers/Wapiti (Jasper) have hookups. Many of the other, smaller, National Parks CGs do no open until mid/late June. The nearest CG outside the Parkway with hookups is David Thompson Resort on Hwy11. Expect snow for a few days , we had snow for 2 days on 21st June 2019! The animals will be about but the sheep and goats will look a bit scruffy as they will be shedding their winter coats.Re: Potable Water TransportationHi Have you looked at Norwesco (Edmonton), Marmit Plastics (Edmonton) or BARR Plastics (Abbotsford BC). All kinds of tank solutions. TrevorRe: where to stop for the nightTry Waitabit Creek in Donald just off Hwy 1. If you want to take the long way round try Cherryville on Hwy 6. TrevorRe: Evacuation InsuranceIf you are worried about coverage in Canada you could take a look here : www.visitorsinsurance.ca TrevorRe: Blanket Creek PP BC reservations ??Sorry it was a typo should be Snowforest, Mount Revelstoke NP. TrevorRe: Blanket Creek PP BC reservations ??I agree with "soup" I always stay at Blanket Creek. You could consider the new Snowflower campground or Martha Creek. But the problem is the same, nobody seems to be able to predict what will happen in 2021. TrevorRe: Lake Louise trailer park or Icefield parking lot.OK, you don't want to stay at the busy town campgrounds, so here goes: Icefield can live up to it's name, snowing here on mid summers day in 2019! It's really just a paved parking lot. Between Banff and Lake Louise there are three campgrounds on the Bow Valley Parkway but bear in mind the railway runs close to all of these, as it does at Lake Louise. There are up to 30 trains a day, some up to 3Km long taking up to 3 or 4 minutes to rumble by! Johnston Canyon, gets very busy, maximum 27 foot. Castle Mountain, probably the furthest from the railway but sites will not take your rig. Protection Mountain, where the closest site to the railway is about 140M, furthest about 450M, will take your rig and probably your best bet. Lake Louise, railway is REAL close. the nearest site is only about 60M away so very noisy and busy. Take a look at Silverhorn Creek, it is 50km north of Lake Louise on the Icefields Parkway. It used to be an overflow CG but I believe that it has been recently upgraded. No problem with your rig and no railway here Another option is Monarch in YOHO NP. this is an open type CG with no facilities. It is next to Kicking Horse and is used as a kind of overflow CG but it has, in the past, often opened earlier than Kicking Horse, check it out, No problems with your rig here. You can view it in street view on Google Maps. Good luck TrevorRe: Mount Revelstoke National Park Snowforest CampgroundLooks OK in this photo https://www.revelstokereview.com/community/camping-to-reopen-in-national-parks-near-revelstoke/
