I'll post my mileage numbers a couple of weeks after that. My 2008 with the CRD averages around 21-22 MPG in mixed driving and is rated for 24 MPG Highway. Get a Green Diesel tune and it will boost your mpg about 2-3 mpg.Re: Ram 1500 diesel review bimbert84 wrote: wilber1 wrote: It's not about "downshiftaphobia", it's about lower noise levels and lower fuel consumption for the 85% of driving that doesn't require high power. So basically, during the 85% of the time we don't need high power, the EcoDiesel can produce more power. But during the 15% we do need high power, it cannot. Keep in mind that during that 85% of the time, the Hemi will not be running in a high gear turning 4500 RPMs, so it won't be burning tons of fuel, and it won't be making a bunch of noise. And all that talk about engine torque being everything becomes rather moot. With the Hemi, most of the time it'll be humming along at low RPMs, smoothly and quietly. But when 300HP is needed, the Hemi can harness it simply by downshifting. The EcoDiesel cannot, and it's gonna slow down despite having more peak torque. That's the beauty of having more gears: you can choose what you want the engine to do for you based on your driving needs at any given time. Need quiet and smooth? Double OD. Need medium power? 5th gear. Need high power? Drop to 3rd. But if the engine doesn't have enough power in the first place, the need for high power simply cannot be satisfied, no matter what you do. -- Rob All the low end tq is where the diesel will shine. This along with 30% more energy per volume of diesel vs gas. While the hemi is struggling to get mid teens in the city, the ecodiesel will be in the 22-23 mpg area in the city. Roughly 50% better mile per gallon.Re: Police hunting RV in Atlanta AreaIf the RV driver had simply pulled over he would not be in the trouble he is. Not a difficult concept to understand.Re: Jeep Gr Cherokee Diesel - Worth the $? Reliable?, Could tow?Tongue wight on the CRD is 750 lbs. The gear ratio is 3.73Re: Jeep Gr Cherokee Diesel - Worth the $? Reliable?, Could tow?I have an 07 GC CRD. It has a Green Diesel tune that bumps the power to 240 hp and 440 ft lbs of torque. I get 24+ 50/50 hwy/city and 27 hwy at 70 mph. I use an independent Mercedes shop to take care of mine. Have not towed with it, but know several that do. They tow 5-7k lb TT. They pull in mountains just fine. Check out jeepforum. There is a ton of info on the CRDs over there.Re: Horsepower is horsepower?I would like to see you make that tq with said 2x4 while the crankshaft is spinning at 2000 rpm.Re: Where to park near The Varsity downtown AtlantaA small trailer is doable on the lot behind the Varsity, but no way for a trailer that size.Re: Hello Ram 1500 Diesel! The 3.0 CRD is at peak tq 1k rpm faster than the ecoboost. 1500 vs 2500 rpm. I average 27 mpg with my 07 Grand Cherokee 3.0. That is a mix of 50/50 hwy /city driving in the summer. It does have a tune on it. When stock it got over 22 mpg with the same driving. This is in a 5500 lb vehicle with full time awd. The transmission is a 5 speed, put an 8 speed tranny behind it and it will only get better. The 3.0 engine has been around for a long time in the European market and is a proven engine. It is not nearly as quick as a GC with a hemi, but put a 5k lb trailer behind both and it would be on equal ground.
