What are y'all doing to buy less fuel? Here's what I'm doing - in addition to setting-up our trailer in a permanent campsite. We are retired and live in the country, 8 miles from town. My wife has a part-time bookeeeping job in the afternoon and goes to town everyday with the little car. I take care of our 22 acres and grow a huge garden. I used to drive my Dodge diesel to town nearly everyday to pick-up stuff at the feed store, tractor dealer, etc - but mostly just to BS with my cronies. I don't go to town anymore. When I need a tractor part, seed, feed or something from the hardware store, I either write a detailed note or call them in advance and my wife picks it up. We are saving significant amounts of fuel that way. What changes have y'all made to deal with these high prices? Jack Trailer PARKED! Truck used when necessary. I would like to drive no more than 20 miles a week, but not often possible.Re: RV Fuel Issues & Prices - Post 'Em Here! 46 Woodie wrote: I have read all 29 pages and found it all very interesting. I think a lot of responders have some good points. I think one part of this whole issue has not been addressed and I would like anyone to chime in on my thoughts. What is the impact of the Federal Reserve's discount rate in this? There seems to be an inverse relationship of the rise of a cost of crude and the decline of the Fed funds rate. Is the current Fed funds rate at a historical low? I am not on a rant that this problem is being caused by the Federal Reserve. However, it seems the value of the dollar is down, there appears to be cheap money available and no where to put it. The stock market is so-so, high tech stocks and real estate are in the tank. So is the only game in town to put money into oil? Please enlighten me See today's WSJ, "the Outlook" by Justin Lahert: "..who says such speculative behavior is due to the sharp reduction in interest rates by the Federal Reserve. Low rates encourage commodity stockpiling, he says, by making it less attractive to sell commodities and put the proceeds into bonds and other debt instruments."Re: RV Fuel Issues & Prices - Post 'Em Here!Cancelled our July 4th trip to Reno: was going to cost me over $800 bucks for 10 days, maybe more. Just not worth it. So the trailer is parked and we shall see what shakes out. We live in such a beautiful area that rving is not so much fun anymore.Re: RV Fuel Issues & Prices - Post 'Em Here!I am lucky, I guess. I retired last year and dont really have to go anywhere. Not much rving in that, but on the other hand, not spending hundreds of dollars on fuel, either. We shall wait it out and see what gives. I hate to say it but it looks like it takes serious problems to make governments act. The dems are married to the environmental movement and the coastal crowd. I say, explore for oil but in a responsible manner with enforced cleanups. Capture coal pollution. Make synthetic oil from coal. Build more nuclear plants. It can be done, but in reality, not for 10 years or so. I have to guess most of Congress likes high prices and reduced driving.Re: CELL PHONE INTERNET ACCESSone solution: 3G iPhone
