Total shame, it was the best car I have ever owned. Plenty of power, torque, very reliable and the mileage was outstanding. Despite VW's problems we liked the Passat enough that we bought the gas version to replace the TDI. The new Passat is also a very nice car. If it was the best car you ever owned, why didn't you just keep it? It made no ecconomic sense to keep a car that was worth 1/2 what VW is paying me. I took the money and ran.Re: F.B.I. Factoring out the truck, people, stuff etc. the camper is about 2800#s dry.Re: Battery Isolation PlanI wired in a Blue Sea single circuit battery switch on the charge wire located under the hood of the truck. Normally I keep it switched off except for those times when I will be driving a lot and need a charge from the truck. When I get to camp it is a simple matter of popping the hood and switching it off. On our trip to Alaska this past summer we ran with it switched off most of the time as the solar system kept the batteries topped off. Simple and cheap and avoids crawling under the truck to plug and unplug the camper to the truck.Re: Buying first TC, want the "perfect" used rig (cold weather)Check out a Northstar. No slides, no basement, well insulated and warm. Easy to use in the winter.Re: Hershey PA RV Show "The Worlds Largest RV Show"-Who's going?May run up to the show as it is only 4 miles from the house. Although, if it's hot I will probably pass. Go early to avoid the parking hassle. I have passed by the show grounds a few time in the last couple of days and have not seen any truck campers, doesn't mean they aren't there though.Re: Spare TireWe had a flat in New Mexico a couple years ago out in the middle of no where. I jacked up the camper, pulled the truck out from underneath the camper, dropped spare, changed tire and reloaded camper. Took me about an hour and half or so, including putting the flat tire back under truck where the spare was. Drove truck to nearest town and repeated the process to get the tire repaired the next morning.Re: Battery SeperatorI put a manual on/off switch from Blue Sea on the charge wire to the camper next to the truck battery. Since I have solar, it is normally switched off. Only switch it on if I feel I need help from the truck's charging system to bring my batteries up. Simple and more or less fool proof.Re: Roll Call Alaska 2016Drove the McCarthy Road this morning. Road was much slower than when we drove in on Friday. Lots of rain which has resulted in lot of new pot holes. Trip out took 3+ hours as opposed to about 2 1/2 hours on Friday.Re: Quality camperNice review of the Northstar Laredo by Truck Camper Adventure. Seems to tick most of your wants: Laredo TC review
