I just had to quote this, you put it so well. I haven't been out there yet, but have studied and researched for a couple of years...... Charles Charles, Just a FYI - Steve has changed the entire trip and hopefully will repost the final itinerary for all to see. Any trip is a process - long and involved - when it is the first trip of this type, people are smart to seek the advice of the many who have gone before them. There is no One solution, making this process just a Great Adventure. Reality is - IMHO - there is no Wrong choice - just many, many options to consider. The only wrong Choice is to Never Go! JMHO, Yes, I've been working at the rerouted trip for several hours now, with Bill's very kind and extremely knowledgeable advice. I'll definitely post it when it's finished, but know at this point that I omitted the Glacier part entirely and will do it at some point in the next year or two.Re: West Glacier to Moab in 4 days? I do have some flexibility and I don't want my wife and daughter to become road weary too early in our trip out West from Connecticut. I think maybe I just answered my own question which is to say that 6 days would be more enjoyable. Please share opinions. First simple answer is - not a problem through Idaho - think the 900 miles should be easy - BUT - This trip and you will be missing a whole Lot of Beautiful Rocks! When is this trip - remember Moab can be well into the 100's in the Summer.......... Lots of spots if you could get even a few more days - What is the Mission - how much total time - when will this all take place. Give us more info we can help, Thank you for the offer! This trip is going to be about 6 weeks starting June 12 with multi-day stops at Badlands, Yellowstone, Glacier, Arches/Canyonlands, Grand Canyon, and quite a few unspecified days. As much as I'd love to Boondock through the whole trip, I know the reality is that I need to reserve sites in the popular places so I've already begun to do that. Lets look at in say Weeks or Days 6x7= 42 - break it down into driving days and place days - with you worring about 900 miles and allocating 6 days it will be hard to figure - drive to Custer in the Black Hills id 2000 miles. With the Glacier to Moab logic you will not make it. Too many miles and Too many Places. So first ----- think two trips! Upper Rockies and South West. Week out and Week Back, 28 days in places that will take your Breath away - Custer and the Black Hills if all open will take you 5-6 days - uster and the Black Hills - Don't forget Bad Lands and Wall Drug Then into Cody - Long day to drive there, then a couple days there - to do the many drives - Chief Joseph - Bear tooth Highway - Wind River Canyon and Hot Springs - Then the drive into Yellowstone to I guess West Yellowstone as there are no Hook Ups in YNP. now the many sites in a National Park that is almost as big as Your entire state of Connecticut - this will take a long week here - now down through Tetons. Not sure what your feelings are to the Tetons but they are Special - personally I could spend a week just looking and Relaxing there - they are that Spectacular. Jackson and possibly into Idaho before heading up to Glacier - be sure the 4th is in your sights as it often does not open - Going to the Sun Road - until the 4th - keep that in Mind. The drive up could include the Tetons from the Back Side - Idaho, completely different. So much to see and do on the Idaho side also then Glacier - Hope Canada has opened up - need to see it all. Now if you need a little heat you could Catch Flaming Gorge and Dino as you head across on RT 40 in Colorado to Steamboat and RMNP before heading home. Sorry, Time Flies when your Having FUN. Total trip will likely be about 6,500 miles - if 300 miles per day is your average then you are over half the time just driving - 6,500/300 = 22 That's just a really quick synopsis of your trip, might be too much reality but there is no way to add Utah and Arizona. JMHO This may help with Glacier NP Your response is extremely helpful. I'll be applying a lot of your suggestions today as I resume my planning. Best to you!Re: West Glacier to Moab in 4 days? Busskipper wrote: Steve, Work a list similar to this into your Calendar - as I often say to first timers - don't make the Thanksgiving Dinner Mistake - Go back for seconds - don't overload the plate and not have room for desert. :) Mountain West Beartooth Highway Billings, MT Black Hills, SD Bozeman, MT Denver, CO Devils Tower National Monument Glacier National Park Glenwood Springs, CO Grand Teton National Park Jackson, WY Mesa Verde National Park Mount Rushmore National Monument Rocky Mountain National Park Yellowstone National Park Being from the East you really have no Idea how BIG the West is - Really Big - Really filled with adventures - we spent 120 days in the Rockies last Summer - Still only touched a Portion! Your next trip would be a Southwest fling; Southwest Arches National Park Bryce Canyon National Park Canyonlands National Park Capitol Reef National Park Grand Canyon National Park Lake Mead Lake Powell Las Vegas, NV Moab, UT Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park Sedona, AZ Snow Canyon State Park Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument Wupatki National Park Zion National Park Just a thought, Bill link - images help - https://www.pbase.com/sparker1/root%26view=tree Thank you very much for you very helpful information, Bill. I love the Thanksgiving dinner analogy! That list makes a lot of sense and it will be handy even for day trips from our base camps.Re: West Glacier to Moab in 4 days? Not to Mention Colorado and Just all the State and Local Parks available. The group will help - some have done this often - some for a long time. Best of Luck, Thanks so much. I'm many hours into planning this and I don't know how many of the reservations I can renegotiate but I'll consider your advice seriously.Re: West Glacier to Moab in 4 days? Your comments pretty much confirm my assumption but I think I'll try the voltage tests that a couple of you described. Happy camping, all!Solar panel purpose on used motorhomeI purchased a used motorhome last winter and besides the fun of taking trips it has also been enjoyable to learn about the various systems and make numerous (of course) minor repairs and improvements. One thing I haven't spent any time learning about is the solar panel that was installed by a previous owner that I found installed on top of one of the AC units. I presume that the purpose of this panel is to keep the batteries topped off while in storage. Does that seem likely to you experts or could there be some other use for this? I suppose I could and should trace the wiring to wherever it leads but I haven't gotten around to that yet. Thanks in advance.WiFi extender - Alfa Camp Pro 2 OR ANOTHERI'm about to embark on a 3-week family motorhome trip and I'm considering purchasing a WiFi extender for the sanity it may preserve while traveling with a 17-year-old. First, I'm interested in opinions about whether this is a good investment. Second, I'm specifically looking at the Alfa Camp Pro 2 for about $135. Does anyone have any experience with this unit or CAN YOU RECOMMEND ANOTHER UNIT that isn't too much more expensive? Thanks in advance.
