Paid camping at lake pleasant or free boon docking at old airstrip staging area.Re: Camping with the Sound PoliceWas at an OHV area in AZ a couple weeks ago. 40 ft toy hauler. twin AC's ran onboard Onan 5500 for 48 hours straight. Over 100 degrees so AC's on. Not loud and nobody close by. Guess people tearing around the Cinders on ATV, RZRS and sand cars are not very concerned with gen sets.Re: What is the average hourly repair rate? Bionic Man wrote: I need some work done on my 5er. My selling dealer is long gone, as is the repair shop I have been using. I've called a couple places, a brick and mortar shop was about $100 (and booked way out), a mobile RV repair guy was $125. I am curious what the going rate for RV repair is in your area? In AZ going rate is $100 to $125.Re: towing with older diesel trucks mhawk4 wrote: Well, here is. My first diesel truck. Thank you for all the advice and info given; but is not over yet. Now,I understand and i like to stay with the motorcraft brand for oil and fuel filters. What about oil? Rotella? Syn or conventional? (there are no oil leaks so far on this engine). Repair manuals, haynes manuals? What about a book for the engine? About the CPS and the 10mm wrench; thanks a bunch. I found one of those sensors behind the rear seat, now i need to carry the wrench. I am still personalizing the truck, you know, the kid with the new toy. I used Rotella 15-40 in both my dieselsRe: towing with older diesel trucks mhawk4 wrote: We finally made the decision and got the new to us 1997 F350. First diesel for us, already been studying the owners manual and maintenance schedule making notes of the things i can tackle on my own. Thanks for your feedback and input. I will post a pic as soon as Rv.net or my internet access stop acting up. Without pics it just didn't happen. :WRe: Found out what a non-turbo Ecoboost feels like RSD559 wrote: Cleaned my throttle body this morning. After re-learning, I took it for a test drive. It had get-up and go, but not the kick in the pants kind of get-up and go. Got back and checked it out. Either I didn't tighten the clamp, or I didn't even put the tube on that runs from the inter-cooler to the throttle body. Put it on and tightened it and it's a beast again. What a difference. I had the tube blow off my 7.3 while headed down the freeway towing my 40 ft toy hauler. Max speed 45 MPH. Luckily just headed back to the storage yard.Re: Towing through mountainsI'm surprised nobody mentioned keeping an eye on EGT's and trans temp and Tach. Of course I have an OLD 1999 7.3 F550. I choose to keep it in the 7.3 sweet spot of 2200 to 2500 rpms. EGT around 1300 degrees or so. Only a 4 speed auto. on a 6 or 7% grade this = a speed of 35 to 45MPH. Pulling a 20K# loaded toy hauler. Not sure any of this applies to the new 6.7 which has way way more torque then my 7.3. I would still recommend keeping an eye on temps.Re: Limited Slip or Open Differential? KD4UPL wrote: Get the LDS. The advantages outweight any perceived disadvantages by a huge margin. My 3rd 4wd vehicle was my first one with a LSD. I was astounded at how well that truck did in snow compared to what I was used too. My current '05 Chevy dually has the factory G80. I was able to literally drive rings around a stuck Ford F350 with an open diff in the mud. Both trucks had very similar weight and the exact same tires. I would always go with LSD. My current dually an F550 has an open Diff. First open diff I have ever owned. The above statement is absolutely accurate and due to LSD not brand of truck. No question go with the LS. You won't even feel a difference. It will just work for you.Re: towing with older diesel trucks mhawk4 wrote: lightning driver wrote: BigToe Thanks for all the background. As a Ca. truck it has the biggest by far catalytic converter I've ever seen. I don't even want to know what a replacement would cost. To the OP apologize if your question was hijacked but from the responses I would say many of use have had very good luck towing with older diesels of various brands. As BigToe pointed out new my truck would have been over $50K in 1999. Today I'd be looking at $75K or more. I paid $7 which left room for a $20K toy hauler and a $8K Rzr. All used of course. Yes I would recommend towing with an older diesel. BUT choose wisely grasshopper. No problem at all. I have been reading all your posts and learning in the process. It is 3am just got home from work; in a few hours I am meeting with a gentleman who is selling a 1997 7.3 F350 DRW with 193,000 miles in the odo. 3 owners, all from South Carolina less than 20 miles from my house. The last two owners are long time friends and use the same shop for the maintenance of the vehicle, all the records are accessible. And to make it interesting, the current owner (if i am not mistaking) is a member of the board for the Good Sam chapter here in SC. So hope fully he reads the tread and cuts me break on the deal...lol. Looking at the pics, the truck is well kept and maintained. I will keep you inform on my decision. thanks At 193K on a 97 ask if trans has been rebuilt. I believe the trans is an E4OD and I always felt they are near need for a rebuild after 150K miles. I also add an external trans cooler to all my E4OD trucks. Let us know how things work out.Re: towing with older diesel trucksBigToe Thanks for all the background.
