Never had a problem, oh, once the Canada/into U.S. crossing held us up for about 10 minutes while he did a "walk around" outside our "18-ft. weekender" and thought perhaps it was because the last time we had crossed into and out of Canada we were in a larger RV. No problems any time we have crossed into or out of Canada .. oh, the reason for the crossings was to see our son and his family, and that is/was always our reason for going into Canada. We did have one that the motorhome in front of us had the "dog" inspection, then it was pulled over for a full-scale inspection. So maybe that is why we were allowed right in with only questions and checking our passport records.Re: How Are Escalating CG/Resort Increases Affecting You?Someone told us to look for rv parks without swimming pools, playgrounds, saunas, etc. and to look in the Good Sam or equivalent RV/Campground yearly publications for those rv parks/campgrounds kinda a bit farther from cities/tourist areas .. we have done precisely that and have been happy with those with fewer amenities to stay in and enjoy. When going to New Orleans we stayed near Kenner at an rv park with a twice daily shuttle into town and back .. the only places we have had to "bite the bullet" is places like Niagara Falls (both sides) in order to spend a few days at each place. But for the most part have looked for "minimum amenities" places and have enjoyed our travels. And surprisingly enough some parks also have golf courses (with separate fees) and were very affordable ! And we don't do golf, just enjoyed saving a few bucks. Shalom.Re: About to retire but need some adviceWe will "retire" for the 4th time this May ... now will explain, first hubby took a golden parachute offered by the company, then he drove charter busses for about 12 years, finally we sold our home and officially retired in May 2004, and now come May 2017 will be 13 years full-timing/volunteering/touring and time to be going "off the road" and settle down in an apartment .. we have enjoyed all 13 years, just that "age" crept up on us and it is time to 'settle' down and spend more time with family/friends in the area we first moved to in 1960. We have kept our residency in Washington State, and for the last 5 years have volunteered in Oregon and have always have had a UPS mailbox for mail delivery where-ever we are .. has worked from here to Vermont, Arkansas, Idaho, or where the road led us. And may keep it after we settle down into an apartment, simply for convenience of picking up pkgs there instead of at the apartment building. When we traveled or were out of state, we simply emailed them to use credit card on file, and gave/give them the address where we will be for the next 10 days to receive our mail. Safe & secure. Sure we have had some "bumps" along the way, but this life has worked out fine for us. So we retired to "something" and did take a couple of years off to combination traveling/touring/volunteering across these United States, plus Canada, so have had a varied life for sure. This site RV.NET was the place came to when first considering Full-timing in an RV. We researched and went to RV Shows for about 16 months before we made the purchase of a TT and acquired the things like hoses, etc. to travel. Whenever have had a question came back here for excellent helps, plus YouTube to show us whether we could do the repair work ourselves or needed to call a repairman ... Thank you all for the helps over the years .. Shalom. Peace.Re: Driver's License DillemaWe have been using our daughter's address ... we have a UPS mail box, but the state of Washington doesn't recognize the UPS mail box address, so went with daughter's address ... all is solved that way .. besides should something happen to us .. the PD will go to her address to notify her ... another problem solved ...Re: mailWe use a mail box at an UPS Store, and simply give our name, the street address of the UPS store, and our Box number like #000, town, state, zip .. have used that many years .. some friends chuckle when they see the return address and know we are in an entirely different state when they receive mail from us ! But when our meds, etc. come, we simply email the UPS store with our new address, and ask for our mail to be forwarded, yes it is costing us about $15 per mailing, but well worth it for sure .. avoids the hassle of dealing with Rx Mail Order, etc.Re: getting old garmp1 wrote: I remember the good old songs like inagodda davida. Even a group called the Crickets and Buddy someboddy...I forget. Buddy Holley & The Crickets ... great tunes on YouTube ... stopped at his Memorial site in Lubbock Texas in 2009 or so ... while touring America ! Fantastic artist for his time.Re: getting old ccxnola wrote: You are only as old as you feel - AFTER you try to prove it!! (And I ain't 60 no mo!!) Thank you ... we had to laugh as am always telling my Hubby to "act your age" ... he is closing in on 80 and tries to act 60 ... fortunately many people think he is 10 years younger, but think that is because we do not act dowdy/old nor are we grumpy & complain ... thank you again for those chuckles ... Happy New Years ! Shalom. Peace.Re: ? TV Rodent Repellant LEDs? Moondaddy wrote: Don't know about mice, pack rats don't like lights. If you have one they will chew the wires off a new pickup in just hours. Saw a camp host w/ a shop light under his ford hd pu. Pack rats had visited his site. They will build a nest out of anything they can carry, they really like wire insulation. Knowing how my wife reacts to mice, I sure didn't need that. Off to hobby lobby and bought enough string light to circle the mh. Don't know if it works yet but makes wife feel better. In a private rv park had a session with trapping a pack rat in the RV, just thought of that when reading your post ... and in the rv park had not put out the rope lights we use when volunteering in state parks, etc. Just did a "well wonder if" to ourselves when reading your post. From now on the rope lights will go down period wherever we are .. Shalom. Peace. As to mice, we use Rodent Repellent Spray plus a battery powered mouse trap and regular mouse traps ... only have caught about 1 or 2 a year, but grateful got rid of the nuisance smells, etc.Re: Are "Settling down" Off the Road Decision. Old-Biscuit wrote: 12 yrs is a good run........FTng is a grand way to live We made it 7 yrs before Life threw a curve ball. We had to catch it and move on. (****** shortened quote***)Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 9whatever that new year should bring!) We have not been on RV.Net for a number of months, but have always come back whenever repairs or questions have arisen ... but a few names have remembered including yours .. Happy 2017 New Years !Re: Ever get bored? dd992emo wrote: Plan is to go FT next May. My lovely wife is concerned about getting bored. She maintains a pretty hectic lifestyle, runs her own business and goes at warp speed most days. I think she worries about filling the hours every day. Anyone have boredom issues? In May we will have completed 14 years of Full-time RV'ng .. but we were both ready to "get out of Dodge" and be free of obligations, etc. and just wanted to try it for five years .. researched the Life for a yr or yr & 1/2 before buy, and going full-time. Started out Workamping/Volunteering .. we both desired to see all of US on the Continent .. Alaska and Hawaii are exceptions. Have done it ! Have enjoyed it! yes, have been bored on occasions usually caused by Weather problems .. So doing some research, setting times, goals, desires, etc. is the key really, really think - at least was for us - thus the 1 to 1.5 yrs of research. And yes, we had rv'd before while the children were growing up. Good luck ...
