The problems are referred to as the 'Big 3'. Lots of info out there if you do your homework. I would personally take a Dutchstar over an Allegro Bus any day.Re: DH is concerned because our Coachmen Mirada has no bumpers Jim@HiTek wrote: Speaking only for my own Freightliner chassis, there's a diesel 7500 watt generator in the middle front making somewhat of a crumple zone, then there's the (admittedly minimal) drivers surround that FL uses on their diesel chassis. Floor plate, collapsing steering wheel shaft, roadside steel framing, etc.. And of course, the entire front end is attached to two heavy I beams running the entire length of the RV that support the engine. Couple that with the living room slide, when retracted, sort of shielding the driver from the back with a wall. Couple all that with the fact that a large class a is very obvious to other drivers, I feel pretty safe as it is. jorbill2or's insight based on expirience is very helpful... In an 'offset' collision the generator upfront won't help you. Offset collisions are always the worse in any vehicle but if I had a choice I'd rather be in my pick-up truck than most Class A's.Re: DH is concerned because our Coachmen Mirada has no bumpersIf you look what is behind the façade on most diesel pushers you will see a bunch of nothing between you and the fiberglass. There is a huge bunch of false security. If you want real protection from a front end collision you would have to buy a Prevost conversion or a Bluebird etc.Re: Where is quality????? usersmanual wrote: I have a 2016 Newmar Mountainaire. I have had nothing but problems with the shades, windshield wipers coming off, macerated pump hose defects, slide outs that do not function and the largest slide out did not function and tore the wall loose and caved ceiling in. Has anyone had problems like this on such a new home? found this on irv2 net I saw this too. I would like to hear more about this as if it isn't exaggerated it is a rare occurrence. Newmar's Mountainaire full wall slide uses the same HWH system that is in all of the Dutchstars and up.Re: Where is quality?????I can only speak for Class A Diesel Pushers. They are getting better and better all of the time. As they became heavier manufacturers ran into issues with overweight front axles etc. This has been resolved for the most part. The 2006 - 2010ish range saw a lot of other issues from Tiffin and others. These problems seem to have been fixed. They are not only made better but floor plans have greatly improved and 'all electric' Coach's are now the most popular for many good reasons. If I was looking at used I would try and stay to 2012 and newer!Re: What your opinion of buying a MV from camping World? usersmanual wrote: man oh man you americans sure like to hate people whom sell things like RVs,I have never read so many hate full comments about sales people and RV dealers my gawd its hard to believe when I read a lot of comments on here.I mean is it really that bad all over the usa? Sometimes the truth must be told. One or two people who knows but the amount of negative feedback about Camping World obviously has some validity.Re: Bikes on ladderNot where I would want to put them but isn't the ladder rated for approx. 200 lbs?Re: RIP Propane k6ncx wrote: Huh? I just bought a brand new Class A. It uses propane, as did EVERY ONE I LOOKED AT on a huge dealer's lot. So did the Class A coaches I looked at on manufacturers' websites. Who are you kidding? Class A diesels. I initially mistakenly left that out. Class A gas propane yes.Re: RIP Propane Mr.Mark wrote: I think 'age' has a lot to do with people buying a 'boondocking unit' vs. an 'all electric unit' used for pole to pole use. In my late 50's and I have no interest in boondocking as a mode of camping. Actually, I've never 'tented', etc. I'm a very late bloomer to camping but hit the ground running as I love it! I have joined my camping group in Quartzsite BLM land for 5 days or so for couple of years and that's my extent of 'boondocking'. We like full hook-ups and resorts! We can certainly boondock for weeks as we have a 235 gallon diesel tank and a large holding tank (165 gallons for black and grey), 165 gallons fresh tank. I never wanted propane on board as it's so flammable. Our first coach was all electric with the Aqua Hot for heated water and furnace. One fuel worked for us then and now. Safe travels, MM. With your Coach you could boondock for ten days easy without propane. Coach's with propane may not last as long as they would run out of fresh water way before you ran out of diesel. People with REAL life experience with an 'all electric' know this.Re: RIP PropaneI obviously didn't write the post correctly and the conversation has changed throughout the posts. 1) In the Metro Vancouver area where I live there are fewer and fewer full service propane sellers that are able to fill an RV or our 35lb propane tanks that my company uses for our little sweepers. Two stations recently closed near us and I usually have to drive along distance to get to one. You can take a 20lb bottle and do an exchange absolutely anywhere. 2) When I mentioned that propane RV's are being built less and less in favour of 'all electric' I was referring to diesel motor homes. Obviously gas and trailers will always need propane. I spend a lot of time on the forums for diesel owners and it has been mentioned many times that the trend is definitely going towards 'all electric'. 3) Dry camp without propane: Yes, I've dry camped without propane for a week no problem. I had an Aquahot hydronic heating system but still had propane. The propane was only used for my BBQ. You will run out of fresh water before you will run out of diesel. I ran my generator once in the morning and once in the evening only. The myth about you need propane to dry camp is no longer. The people that REALLY know through REAL experience by way of ownership of coaches with both propane and 'all electric' can testify to this.
