All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: honest advice on a truck for towing 10000lbsFWIW... I went from an '08 F250 PSD to a '12 Chevy 2500 6.0 gasser (4.10 gears). My TT is around 10K. I don't miss the diesel... THAT much. The fuel mileage IMO isn't that much different even with the 4.10's. MAYBE 3mpg. Every so often, trudging up a long grade, I kinda wish I still had the PSD. But it's not often enough where I regret getting the gasser - not by any stretch. Also, the Chevy IMO handles the load (stability-wise) better than the F250 did. Couple that with the fact that the truck is my daily driver, and the diesel just isn't very user-friendly as a DD in Syracuse, or in areas where the winters can be brutal. Having to plug in the block heater at 4am before heading out when it's 5 below, frankly, sucks. For amount of miles towing vs not towing, for me, the gasser made more sense.Re: Any "must haves" for camping with kids?Another vote for glowsticks! And someone beat me to it, but first-aid kit! A well-stocked one with steristrips, butterflies, bandaids, tape, ice packs, gauze pads, ace bandages... and Benadryl for the allergic reaction that may pop up. Keep it simple, don't overthink it with kiddos. Unless yours are constantly glued to an iPad or XBOX, they'll figure out for themselves what they can do for fun!Re: Role of grand parents.Talk with your children about this. What role do they want you to play in the kiddos' lives? And it's not about "raising" them or feeling burdened by being a grandparent. You are an important part of your grandkids' lives. You are their story tellers, their history teachers, their link to their ancestry. My mother passed away 24 days before my son (first child) was born. We lost my father when my son was 3 and my daughter was barely 2. My kids will miss out on Poppa's stories and bad jokes, and will miss out on making Christmas cookies with Babci. Spend as much time as you can with them.Re: blog name help kcmoedoe wrote: A quick internet search shows there are over 100,000,000 blogs on the internet. It is going to be awfully hard to stand out, especially if your blog specializes in relatively mundane photos. It is just a fact that photos of waterfalls, trees in fall colors, common animals etc. are just not going to attract a following. The vast majority of blogs are only viewed by a few friends and family, and often that viewing only occurs right before an in person visit (you know kind of like cramming for a college exam). Photography as a profession is a shrinking profession. High quality digital cameras and editing software makes it very difficult for all but the most determined photographer to make a living. For practical purposes, only high end wedding photographers and commercial photographers are making an income off photos. If all you want is people to view your work, just remember viewing a bunch or strangers' photos is a pretty good cure for insomnia. You will need a very good hook to have an active blog and I just don't see travel photos as good bait. Why don't you also tell her that Santa, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny are fake, too?!?! Here's a blog name: "kcmoedoe is a doody-head". I'd read that.Re: Campground search tools JoeH wrote: magnusfide wrote: We and many other RVers have quit using RvPark Reviews when there was too much censoring of the criticism of owners. We use Woodalls.com to narrow the choices around a destination then look for reviews at TripAdvisor.com; there are also reviews of cgs elsewhere too - just do a search for campground reviews. When you narrow down your choices you can search this forum for the cg to see if anyone has been there. I agree with your assessment on rvpark reviews.... I don't use them anymore either I too am curious as to how you know this to be happening? Your personal reviews being edited? I've read many reviews on that site that have blasted campground ownership. I've found that site to be quite useful, as they seem to have the biggest sampling of reviews for with which to take a sampling from. If they're censoring criticisms at will, I'll have to find a new resource.Re: Need help finding golf cart alternativeCouple Zuma 50's will fit in the back of your truck. Should be able to pick up a couple decent used for 2000-2400 bucks. No mc license needed, fun to ride, big storage under seat, and can ride 2-up around the park. Both would probably weigh less than a golf cart. Keep in mind not all parks allow golf carts. The scooters can be registered and road legal.Re: Life - Flight type of insurance.....what do you do?I am. Nothing a little (or a LOT) of titanium couldn't fix. Thanks!Re: Life - Flight type of insurance.....what do you do?Check with your major medical carrier. It may be covered in some cases. When I crashed my motorcycle last year near Pittsburgh, I was airlifted to PittPresby. The helo bill was $13k+. BC/BS covered the whole shibang. (was holding my breath for a couple months though!)Re: Please help me decide on Fifth Wheel Toy Hauler!Rule of thumb - if the 5er has 3 axles you need a 1-ton.Re: Medicine while traveling.Vet Man - insurance companies do audits frequently. If its a medication that it's known dosage is once a day (a 24 hour extended release tablet for example) and the doc writes it for 3/day, it creates a flag at the insurance company. The insurance company calls the pharmacy and requests a copy of the rx and documentation from the pharmacy for the excessive dose. If none is had, call the doc. Doc then has to provide documentation that the dose is necessary. If he is unable to do so, the pharmacy gets reverse billed for the med, plus a fine or fee. The md can be fined and the patient risks losing his coverage. And if it's a Medicare drug plan, the pharmacist will be paying the fine out of his pocket, which could be up to $10,000 PER INCIDENT. So if he refilled the rx 5 times, it's a $50k fine. The doc also risks losing his ability to bill for Medicare services. Does it happen often? No. But audits like those (especially Medicare) are not fun. And it doesn't have to be an overtly egregious abuse to flag an audit.
