Of course they didn't want to cover, even under warranty. I kicked, stammered, bitched up a storm, they finally agreed to pay 1/2 the cost of a white automotive paint job and supplied new decals. Hope you find a good solution.Re: Fuel mileage on Dodge 5.9 Cummins while towingI have an '04 5.9L w/ 48RE & 4.10, pulling a 31' 5r between 9,500 & 10,000lbs, typically 10-11 when towing, 18-19 on the highway empty. We like the convenience of a TV & trailer compared to a MH, able to drop & tour, and one less drivetrain to maintain. Different strokes for different folks :)Re: Dutchman DenaliI have a 2012 Denali, had warranty issues re: bedroom doorframe came apart, wardrobe door frame came apart and the mirror attached to it shattered. Other smaller items that the factory eventually authorized the dealer to repair. My most recent repair was replacing all 3 roof vents as the material on the originals severely disintegrated. I have also invested in beefing up the leaf springs and equalizers. To date I have invested over $4,000 in three years for repairs and upgrades. The biggest issue I had was over the premature oxidation of the brown paint/gel coat (never did get an honest answer to what finish it was) on the front cap that was noticed approximately 15 months after delivery. Dutchmen argued that it was out of warranty, I argued wtf, it was only 15 months old and clearly a manufacturing defect. If you google this website, the Dutchmen Owners website, etc., you will find there are many folks with '12 and '13 models with similar front cap finish problems. After lots of back and forth with Dutchmen, they agreed to pay for half of the refinish. How sporting of them! If I had to do it over again, I would give more serious consideration to another brand. I realize most, if not all, units have issues. But by far, this unit has clearly been the most troublesome. Must be something with todays QA at Thor Industries, and particularly Dutchmen??? While I do enjoy the layout, and the rare trouble free moments I do experience using it, I will attest that my next unit will not be a Dutchmen/Denali. Best of luck to you and your ultimate purchase decision.Re: Your Rig ken white wrote: Junk4u wrote: Hello.. We have a 2015 DRV 45' lexington being pulled by a 13' ram 3500 dually. Nice, but damn that's big... X2. At least it has an axle for each A/C unit:B Nice looking set up!!Re: That time of the year for us....We should have a few nice weekends left here in the eastern Sierra before its time to roll on the cover and call it a season. Hope to get out 2X before we do that. Happy trails!!!Re: So where will you be??? Bird chaser wrote: We will be at a wedding in Monterey. The following week we will be at Greyeagle on the Feather River. Glad school is back in session, CG reservations are easy to get again. birdchaser, whereabouts in Graeagle. We rented a house there last week since we had out-of-state visitors, but we will be pulling our 5r there late Sept or early Oct., probably Clio. We're staying put this weekend, too many people out and about, let them enjoy it. We are still working, but will be retiring early next year, so we should have plenty of mid-week time available to enjoy our favorite spots. Whatever y'all are doing, have a great weekend!Re: Random tire thought bgum wrote: Just bought 4 Maxxis 8008. Ordered them. They were a year old when they arrived. Like someone else noted, I would not have accepted those tires. When I bought my 8008's at DT, I specifically told them I wanted the date codes to be within 3-4 months of purchase. The ones I rec'd were 9 weeks old. I also uprated to LRE. These tires replaced the infamous Akurets that were installed at the factory, only kept them on for one season. The 8008's have been on the rig for 2 seasons now, so far so good, very happy with them. Sold the Akurets on CL for $100:BRe: lube plate size? With our mid-range 5r using a standard kingpin/box and a Reese 16K hitch, I use a 10" plate. Seems to work just fine. As the edges of the 10" sticks out a bit, I think the edges of the 12" would stick out too much and be susceptible to bending or breaking.Re: picking up our new 5th wheel, need adviceCongrats on making your purchase. About 3 yrs ago we upsized from a 23' TT to a 31' 5r. There is a difference in towing, as you will feel more weight "in" the truck. However, towing the 5r seems more stable as there is a lot less sway and turbulence. I would hook/unhook a couple of times with your service person (not the salesman) to make sure your comfortable with that process. I think I would rather tow by myself the first time to minimize distractions. From what I can tell, your attitude, sense of humor and previous experience will serve you well for you inaugural trip. Just take your time, check and recheck, and have fun!Re: Your RigGood looking rigs everyone - thanks for posting!
