I had too few existing wires for the new unit and had to pull new wires for it but it was WELL WORTH the extra day's work doing it. I had to be creative in getting the wires from inside the wall to up inside the ceiling to inside the duct work to the unit. I'm about to purchase a new Atwood to replace the Advent AC in my Kodiak. How is the Atwood working for you? How big is your camper?Re: 2013 Kodiak AC bcsslc wrote: This may be a bit late but I was experiencing a similar situation in my 276bhl 2013. I spent one afternoon and opened up all the the vent and traced the ducting from the supply. I notice that there was some random spaces that were being used with no vents. Also when I opened the access from the ceiling there seemed to be lots of cross flow from the return air and the cool supply. So any way I went through and blocked off any unnecessary ductwork and installed foam at the end just past the last vent. Also spent about an hour using duct board and ul listed Tinfoil tape and seal off the return air and supply. It does seem like a lot of work but it truly was not bad and I really got to know the workings of my trailer. Anyway by in blocking and sealing my a/c works great. 90* out and I'm 75* ish (depending on kids in and out) in about an hour. I also carry an small 6"to 8" vornado fan that I help move the air around. Thanks for the info. I got to looking over the duct work in mine too and was surprised how shoddy everything looks. I think I will be doing the same to mine this weekend to see if it helps. The motor on my AC has been making a weird noise for a while now, so I ma just waiting for it to go out so I can replace it with an Atwood Air Command 15K. Between that and sealing up the ducts, it should be able to stay a little cooler.Re: 2013 Kodiak AC kelly94942 wrote: Hi all - we were out this weekend in our new Kodiak (300 BHSL) and we used the AC. It was only about 80 degrees out, so not super hot, but it took FOREVER to get cool in the trailer. The bathroom cooled down quickly and got quite chilly, but the bedrooms and especially the main room were warm for quite a while. We had some young kids with us so the doors were open and closed a bit more than they normally would be (in and out, in and out, etc.) but it just felt like the AC couldn't keep up. We haven't had this issue on our previous RVs, they got cold fast and stayed cold! We are taking a long road trip this summer and I'm thinking if it had a hard time in Oregon in the spring it's really going to have a hard time in Georgia or Texas in August! Any tips or suggestions? Should we upgrade our AC? Add a second unit? Add a portable unit? Sorry to resurrect an old post, but I was wondering if you found a solution to make your Kodiak cool better? It's gotten to the point where we hardly use ours anymore during the summer. I am thinking of replacing the Advent AC with an Atwood Air Command 15K.Re: 68db generator NLPRacing wrote: It was delivered today! I am hoping to crank it up soon, I will let you know how I like it. I put oil in it, and gave it a couple of pulls. Then I adjusted the choke to halfway and pulled it again and it started right up. I let it warm up a bit, then I plugged the trailer in. I have a 15K AC on my trailer. When I turned the AC on, the generator bogged a little, but then went back to running smoothly. It's not quiet by any means, but it's no louder than the Onan 5500 I had on my old motorhome. Once I turned on the AC, I could only barely hear the generator inside the trailer. I only plan on using this for boondocking at rest areas, truck stops, etc. as well as at NASCAR races. All of which, noise isn't too much of an issue. But, I would never use this at a campground, it's too noisy for that. I have less than $300 invested in it and based on that and how I will use it, it's going to work out just fine. But if you're looking for a "Honda" quiet generator, you will be disappointed.Re: 68db generatorIt was delivered today! I am hoping to crank it up soon, I will let you know how I like it.Re: 68db generatorHome Depot had these on sale for Black Friday at $279 with free shipping, so I went ahead and bought one. I should have it in about a week or so.Re: Selecting Tow Vehicle for Travel TrailerI have that same trailer and I have towed it with my 07 Expedition EL many, many times including a trip from Texas to Orlando and back in the summer of 2014 with no issues and got between 7 and 8 mpg. I have also towed it a few times with my 14 F150 Raptor including a trip from Arlington, TX to Hot Springs, AR and back during spring break 2015 with no issues and got around 9 mpg. With that said, I would rather have an F250 or bigger, but just not as a daily driver.Re: 68db generatorrandallb, have you used this generator yet? If so, what are your thoughts? I'm thinking about getting the same one.Re: Convert our Trailer's electrical system from 30 to 50 ampQuick update, I installed a "hard start capacitor" on my AC and that seems to have fixed my circuit breaker popping problem. I've had it out a few times now with everything on, including the coffee maker & electric water heater, with no issues.Re: Convert our Trailer's electrical system from 30 to 50 ampThanks for the info. But, in regards to the "SERIOUSLY overloading the 30 amp supply cord" comment, I don't think that's true. When I am plugged into the 50 amp outlet using my 50 to 30 "dogbone" adapter, I believe it's only pulling power from one "leg" of the 50 amp outlet. Maybe someone smarter than me can chime in to explain that better. pianotuna wrote: Hi, The fridge only draws about 325 watts on electric, so it is not much of a load. The water heater is about 1231 watts in my RV, and that is quite a good portion of the 3600 watts available. It is perfectly normal to not trip the pedestal breaker when running a 50 to 30 amp adapter. If you are doing so, you are SERIOUSLY overloading the 30 amp supply cord. There is a possible fire risk, if this is happening. NLPRacing wrote: I can't remember if I tried running the fridge & water heater on propane while plugged in on shore power. I'll try that too to see if that makes a difference. Most places we camp at have 50 amp available. What's kind of funny is that when I use my 50 to 30 amp adapter, we usually trip the pedestal breaker less than when we are plugged into the 30 amp on the same pedestal. I'll keep you updated.
