We currently do that with a jeep and are at the beginning stages of planning to do it with some sort of sports car or muscle car. Wonderful find on what looks to be a pristine C4. They are becoming hard to find and that looks like a good one.Re: Moving an abandoned truck camper. We have done similar clean ups and have found the easiest is a side by side with a small trailer and a couple guys cutting with sawzalls. It is amazing how quickly a camper comes apart. Most that are abandoned have been pretty well scavenged and it is basically just the skin and structure and a few cabinets.Re: Securing Portable AC unit When travelingI built a platform out of plywood that was roughly twice the base of the portable AC. Where the wheels on the AC lined up with the plywood I drilled holes for them to set down in the platform and then built it up high enough that the wheels did not touch the floor. Then ran a strap from eye hooks on the platform over the top of the AC to tie it all together. I ended up gluing and screwing four pieces of 1 inch plywood together if memory serves correctly. This was in a FW and for transport only but after I forgot to strap the platform to the trailer floor and it arrived in one piece and the same place it started I never tied it down again. The wife carries a curtain rod and a sheet in our DP for really hot travel days. She places it right behind the front seats so the dash AC air is somewhat trapped up front. It makes a difference although it looks a bit tacky. Hope the descriptions make sense.Re: Did California change its towing laws?It hasn't really changed it is just the CA vehicle leaves a huge grey area in its definition that makes it really hard to enforce. The CA code that refers to NOT towing more than one trailer only refers to a passenger vehicle which most of us do not use to tow. I have encountered enforcement stops twice and they would make you separate for being over length (65') but not for the doubles. They would do this for MH's towing trailers as well that were over length. And really looked for triple axle toy haulers (requires a non commercial class A). Most I know get the class A license with double endorsement to avoid any issues. The doubles or "T" endorsement is just a written exam that you take after completing the class A. Before they instituted the non commercial class there was a exception that required the first trailer to be a FW and the second could only be a boat. With this now removed one could interpret it to allow pulling two bumper tow trailers. I asked about this to a local DOT officer as to pull two trailers behind a MH and he shook his head and said keep it under 65'.Re: Insurance and tandem towingIt was a 2001 Fleetwood Wilderness lite. It was a model M-24 or something close to that.Re: Insurance and tandem towingI had a policy through Geico and the last was through Farmers. My second trailer was either a boat, a trailer with a side by side, or a jeep being flat towed. Requirement's with both companies was that it was legal within the guidelines of the motor vehicle laws where I was licensed and properly secured to the TV which is the case with anything in tow. Since the FW was properly attached to the TV and the second item was properly attached to the FW it made all in question properly attached to the TV in the eyes of both companies. My Farmers agent got it right off and made the process easy. Not cheap but easy. Doubles towing is not for the faint of heart but it worked for us on many trips with many different destinations. I would do it again. Our decision to change was the wife's desire to have something bigger than a 24' FW while I was out playing with the toys.Re: Looking for advice on best way To keep large toy hauler coolWe used the stand alone unit in the garage in addition to the two roof top units. I built a plywood panel that incorporated the exhaust and electrical connection that fit in the bottom vent door in the garage. Allowed me to run an extension cord to the park pedestal if we had hookups or to a second generator on the odd occasion we were dry camping in heat. My generator and 30 amp trailer couldn't handle the stand alone unit. The one we used was a black and decker 14,000 BTU.Re: Cal to TexasCongratulations on getting out of California. A climb any direction you go. I use 58 to 14 to 138 to 15 to 215 to 210 and then 10 to 20.Re: Arizona, lots of great routes... roads, not so muchWe used to look forward to getting out of California and onto the smoother roads of Arizona, Not the case now. I have driven down jeep trails that were smoother than I40 and we didn't see a single road crew trying to do any type of repair. I sure hope those of you in Arizona are not paying high registration, road fees or gas taxes. Although looking at the fee scale on the fuel pumps it looks like you are. Hard to take when you pay high fees, as we do in CA, only to see unmaintained roads.Re: Full Time Motorhome Gulfcoast wrote: This post is about a washer/dryer and not about gas vs diesel. Thanks anyway. Based on this it seems it would be much simpler to just add a combo unit to your current set up and keep traveling.
