We tow a 2 Horse Living Quarters aluminum trailer that weighs 5500 empty and has a 10,000 max GVW. Our question is would the F-250 have a smoother ride than the F-350 when not towing? There is no chance that we will want a larger trailer so a heavier upgrade in the future is not an issue. Currently we tow the trailer with a 2001 Dodge 2500 4x4 with a 5.9 diesel.Re: 2004-2006 Dodge DieselWe bought a 2003 3500 4x4 Dodge diesel new in 2003. It came with 235 HP and 460 lbs of torque 5.9 diesel. Today it has 195,000 miles and still looks new. While we can't keep up with the new 1000 pounds of torque monsters it does pull our horse trailer with ease (14- 16 mpg) and gets 22+mpg on the freeway. We rebuilt the 47RE trans at 150,000 for $2500 including a stronger torque converter.Re: Simple Guy Looking for Simple Truck Camper (Short bed)Northstar also makes a pop-up camper(TC650SC) for S/B trucks that is self contained.Re: Small Truck CamperNorthstar now makes a similar hard side camper. Their Vista camper has a dry weight of 1260 pounds. When loaded with 20 gallons of water and supplies it is likely too heavy for a half ton truck.Re: Automatic Transmission RebuildersWe have a 2003 Dodge 3500 diesel 4x4 with the 47 RE trans. We use it for towing and at 140,000 I decided to have it rebuilt before we had any major issues. Our local trans shop rebuilt it and upgraded the torque converter to a Billet. The out the door cost was just shy of $2500. We now have 185,000 on the truck and the trans has been flawless. The truck is completely stock and does not have a HO motor.Re: Truck Campers Ain't For EveryoneWashington requires you to license and register a truck camper.Re: Do Bigfoot Travel Trailers stay cool in the HOT south?TurnThePage, If you like Canadian trailers take a look at the Escape brand. They are made in BC, are similar to Bigfoot but cost a lot less. However their longest bumper pull is 21 ft. We owned a 21 ft. Bigfoot and it had plenty of room for the 2 of us plus the dog.Re: The best hand Electric Trailer Dolly for the money & why?We have a Parkit 360 electric dolly that is made in Canada. It runs on 24 Volt RV battery (has a built in charger) and the model we have will push 10,000 pounds. We use it to put our horse trailer into our barn. The units work best on asphalt or concrete. TRe: Ram 6.4L Hemi vs good ol' 8.1LSend a PM to ib516. He owned a 6.4 with 4.10 gears that he was very happy with. Before he bought this truck he did a post on why he chose the 6.4 over a diesel (his previous truck was a 5.9 Cummins).Re: Class C choices around 24'Take a look at a 24 ft. Lazy Daze.
