Owners of Dodge based RV's?I had the heads redone last year thinking it was valve seals. The shop replaced the valve guides as well....still smokes.. That's great advice to do the leak down and compression tests first. I will do that for sure! I'm not rushing into anything..been driving it this way for a couple years and I got a kid, and most of my money going to college. So I have to plan every "restoration" dollar. Boondocker......The P.O. had a Q-Jet type carb on it.. The Edlebrock was a vast improvement over that. Electric choke, much more responsive. The TQ is probably great too, but I got no complaints with fuel delivery. I've also added an electric fuel pump back at the tank. Works great!Re: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?It's definately oil smoke (blue) I put an Edlebrock carb on and it runs great. Smokes at start up and on deceleration. Seems worse when driving slow through town.. I'm pretty sure it needs rebuiding.... Just trying to justify the cost. Me and the wife and the dog love it and everything else works and we've done so much to it..... I totally agree with you guys about the lack of a payment book...and you WILL work on a new one too! The more I see friends mess with new ones with digital control boards and other "bells and whistles" going out and giving problems the better I like my old simple to fix 79! I think I just justified!! Soon to be smoke free Retro...Re: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?Wow! I get busy, turn around and you guys have done eighty pages or so!! I have to pay better attention! And I have some reading to catch up on... I was going to ask if anybody with the 440 (mines a 79) has a oil smoking problem. I read that the valve seals can cause it, but I've had those replaced. I'm thinking the old girl needs a freshening. It just runs so good I hate to tear it down. Anybody rebuilt a 440 in one of these fine ol' Dodges? Anything I should really pay attention too? Anything I could check that could cause oil smoke? Thanks for any help. RetroRe: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?My oil pump is as Big John says....external. '79 440Re: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?Wow! Very Scary....I will check my tank mounts before the next outing. Thanks for the info..Re: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?Perry, I can only speak for my 79 model, yours may be different. My oven has a "PILOT" setting on the knob. (Make sure all the other burners are in the "OFF" position by the way..) There is a pilot light inside the oven. Turn the gas on,knob in correct "pilot" position, light the pilot... pretty easy. Again, yours may be totally different. It would be good to find a manual or directions and don't ever do anything with propane if you're not comfortable..Re: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?Thanks... Just in case anyone is planning tire replacement from 8.00 x 16.5 on a class C to the slightly larger 8.75 x 16.5. I did it a couple weeks ago and have been happy with the results... No clearance issues and the slighty taller height helped a little with my low geared rig.. I think this has already been on a thread here, but thought I'd share ;-)Re: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?Is there an easy way to tell the 440-1 from the 440-3??Re: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?Having just installed my first Edelbrock, I must give them a nod. Really good right out of the box. I've bought new Holleys in the past and have had problems. My ThermoQuad had already been replaced by p.o. when I bought my motorhome (see pic at profile)choke didn't work, ran bad. Edelbrock/with an electric choke has made it like a different vehicle. Very happy with that upgrade.. Just my 2 cents Retro
