Also stop at Braeburn Lodge if it’s still open on the way to Dawson city and get a cheeseburger and a giant cinnamon roll ( they freeze well too). Re: Top of the World and Dawson City to Carmacks highways. did this trip in 2022 and yes it is a bit rough and has its challenges but if driven with sense and not being in a hurry which if you are doing this trip and in a hurry don’t do it this is not a trip for that but back to the trip the TOW was worth having to wash my truck and camper doing a sour toe cocktail in Dawson city and a chicken shot in chicken riding the ferry across the Yukon River yes the road to Tok is rough but just take it easy did it once and would do it again came back from Tok to Haines Jct on Alaskan HWY was not any better in fact in spots it was worse Re: Paid Caravans to Alaska Worth it? We did this trip from sw pa to Alaska and back on our own after considering a caravan and if I had to do it over again I would go on my own again we saw more places did more things and we’re on our own time schedule The Alaskan Highway can be challenging in the sense if you don’t have any common sense you must watch the road drive sensible remember that’s your home and we did western Canada and the west coast on our way home pulling a 40’ 5er with a 3500 ram Dually and only had $12500 and we were gone for 155 days and 22845 mile we met so many nice people on our trip at the camp grounds might see them at this one and than two later made friends with some that lived in Alaska and had dinner with them in anchorage it was wonderful Re: Introduce Yourself! hello we are Jerrie and Art have been camping since 1982 started in a tent and have progressed to a 40’ Montana 5 th wheel and a ram 3500 Dually Retired in 2020 and have been rving a lot been to the Albuquerque hot air balloon festival pulled our trailer from sw pa to Alaska down the west side of the Canadian Rockies , Vancouver the west coast back thru Moab UT Yellowstone and Jackson Hole what an adventure. 155 days and 22847 mile If anyone is thinking about taking this trip it’s not as bad as the nightmares you hear would be glad to answer any questions have a lot of info on campgrounds road conditions and places of interest Glad to be a good Sam member
