Usually a rotted frame or floor will sink and therefore make the good part of the frame and floor look like its rising. Hopefully, its just the floor. That's easier to fix than a rusted weak frame. The floor can be fixed by either lifting or jacking up the walls or sides of the camper and putting in a solid thick floor structure. Hope this helps. Re: Buying a travel trailer nickthehunter, Grit_dog - Its illegal in every state. Only exception are a few jurisdictions such as private property.. I'm surprised you guys don't know this. Fine is only $100 in most states, but most cops won't let you proceed since overloaded conditions are unsafe. Camper is towed to an impound lot until you get the weight down or get a bigger rig to tow it properly. These laws aren't only for big rigs, its for all vehicles. Be safe guys. Re: Atwood 85-11 rv furnace issue Could be a number of things, but sounds like your inlet is clogged which tells the safety flame detector to turn off the flame. The inlet has the air filter in it.. Can you trace the inlet from the furnace back into the camper to find the inlet?. If cleaning the inlet doesn't work, clean the flame detector rod. It keeps the furnace from overheating but if dirty it turns off the flame but some gas still goes up the exhaust. Its easy to clean on most furnaces. Turn off the power. Look inside for a rod that is located in front of the burners. There's usually one bolt that holds it on. Take it out and clean it with emery cloth or brillo pad. If that doesn't work, could be the control board, or at worst a cracked manifold. Hope this helps. Re: New home? It's a good idea to get it inspected and best to get it state certified. Even if an accident isn't your fault, the feds and courts look down upon anything homemade on their interstates. Re: Buying a travel trailer Isn't the tow rating for a Chevy Equinox only 1500lbs? If so, My opinion is to stay under 900lbs dry weight. After the 300lbs or so of personal gear in it totaling 1200lbs, your Chevy won't last long and you'll feel like your in a horror movie on mountain roads. The Feds throw the book at vehicles over the weight limit. If in a wreck and not even your fault, the lawyers love roasting overloaded drivers and usually win. Best to keep it legal. Hope this helps. Re: Buying a travel trailer Hi Reisender. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you're illegal. Isn't that a model 3 which has a tow capacity of just 2200lbs? Those poor little electric motors are straining under the 3400 lb load. Amazing the Tesla hasn't pooped out or a knowledgable state trooper hasn't confiscated the Tab. (Police won't allow to tow any further if over weight) Here's a list of stand up hard sided campers under 1400lbs. Many everyday vehicles can tow only 2000lbs or less. I compiled this for myself but figured maybe others would like it. Its not totally accurate since there are many different dry weights, prices, reviews and problems listed on the internet for the same campers, so check my work. Sure these are very small and will probably not be enjoyable if more than 2 people use them, but for single folks, it should be enough. There's a whole bunch of canvas pop ups and low profile campers with an interior height of less than 6'0". I'm sure those are nice, but I'm 5'11" (with my shoes off) and really want to stand up, plus I'm just not a fan of canvas. Using a 2000lbs towing limit vehicle, Its my opinion you should stay under 1200lbs dry weight. After the 300lbs of personal stuff, towing 1500lbs might be too hard to control or too hard on the drivetrain. Maybe I'm asking too much out of a camper, but it looks like there's a good amount of these on the market. Hope this helps.
