Here in Prince Edward Island Canada we need to have our trailer Safety Inspected every year. We always think it is just a money grab from the Provincial Government, but were never so happy to have it done then last year. When doing the safety inspection last year they noticed one of our marker lights was flickering. The mechanic removed the marker light to replace it and noticed that it was a short in the wire, and there was some charred wood around the hole where the wire came through. He also stated that the hole wasn't made with the appropriate tool, that it looked like someone just used a hammer to smash a hole to feed the wires. He strongly believed that if he hadn't have noticed this that the trailer would have caught fire driving down the road. Since this time we have prepared a total safety checklist that we use every time we prepare to travel with the trailer, whether we have been stopped one night or 15 nights. We take our time doing this and make sure every light is solid and fully functional. Just thought I would share. Re: 7 year old tires Maybe not as much experience as others but we are heading out on a 15 month journey and our original tires were on our two year old trailer - granted they were the China bomb type tire, but we replaced them this fall before our journey begins. Within the first two months of our journey we are going to hit several dirt roads, towing our trailer, including the Top of the World in Alaska. We ended up purchasing Carlise Trail HD's - an 8 ply tire I believe. We bought 5 and paid under $1000 Canadian. So far so good, and the peace of mind is priceless. Re: Introduce Yourself! That is what we are doing, we have some of our schedule on our website ourlifeandahighway.com and will be adding more of the schedule once we hit the road. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, as most of our campgrounds listed are tentative and what we have found on line. Re: Introduce Yourself! Angela and Ross here. We bought our 2022 Forest River 27RK two years ago, and now that we are both retired we are starting out on our dream journey we have been planning since we signed on the dotted line in March 2022. We are heading out on the 26th of June 2024 and travelling to every province in Canada and state in the United States - yes we did Hawaii in November - without our trailer. We won't be returning home until the 30th of August 2025. If you are out there let us know, looking to connect with other travellers.
