I had an endurance blow out on me and cause about $1,300 worth of damage to the underside and sheet metal of my fifth wheel. Tread came completely off and beat the dickens out of my trailer. Discount Tire swapped it out, but didn't save the tire for a claim with Goodyear. Fortunately I had taken pictures showing the remains and I salvaged the tread for more photos. In the end, Goodyear (at the insistence of Discount Tire) paid for the tire and the $1,300 in damages to the trailer. I kept Endurance on that trailer (16,500 pounds) but never trusted them fully and I invested in a TMPS system. Now on a smaller fifth wheel I have Carlisle and stepped up a load range. Re: Truck/Trailer Decisions. Several years ago we had a new 2016 SRW F-350 diesel when we purchased our 42' Cardinal that weighed in (gross) at 16,500+ and at that time the pickup was rated at 16,000 for fifth wheel towing. I was shocked that towing for an F-250 and F-350 SRW was exactly the same...16,000 pounds. We towed a couple of months and decided we really needed a dually, so we traded up to a 2017 DRW F-350. The difference was amazing. Absolutely never had another white-knuckle day on the road. Was it harder to park...yes, certainly it was. Was it a bit more expensive to drive, yes it was. Did it give us a MUCH stronger feeling of safety for ourselves and others - YES IT DID!! Re: Stonewall, TX to San Antonio, TX According to the Texas DMV website FM-1623 appears free from any overhead obstructions or limitations: https://www.txdmv.gov/motorcarriers/low-clearance/san-antonio-district-structures-with-low-vertical-clearance And I've driven US-281 enough to know you're good there.
