Always enjoy reading your stories. Hope you have time in your busy schedule to work on your book.Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}"Again Mr. Weatherman has told us of upcoming events that are not to my liking. 19* out now with windchill of 8* but winter storm advisory this evening through tomorrow evening with possible of 4-6" prior to tapering off" I do understand the pain, Dan, here in the Eastern township, we are targeted for more than 6" close to 10" ( I live in the mountains). Winter is very long and I could not wait to go to New Mexico, as I often do every spring. Unfortunately I had to cxl my trip, this year...and I was so looking forward meeting many of you from this thread, and your puppies and kitties. Richard, I am very please of the exposure that you have obtained with this broadcast and the award. FOOF's in Cda have been following this thread and contributed to the Old Fella Legacy, and I am sure they are happy that Old Fella and the mission you undertake has brought you RV'er of the year. I will be participating in a rally in May but I am not sure of making the one in June in Ohio.... I am still working, not a snowbird yet....and my schedule is not as flexible as I would want it. Keep the good work, and this thread running! Hope you have time to write your book in your busy life!Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}"Sue and I had a long talk on the way home and she has convienced me to start in January to write the book "A Very Old Stray, The Old Fella Story." Sue believes that only I am capable of writing the real story filled with the emotion that will make it come to life." Dixie, I am very glad that she convince you! I had once mentioned in an old post that you had a way with words, and I was wondering why you did not write your own story. Others also suggested it before. Experiences makes a writer more credible; you cannot write of a special love relationship without having been there. Sue is totally right! Wishing you the inspiration and the time needed in 2009 to tell the beautiful story we had a chance to share by this never ending post! and to all of you, best wishes for 2009, health, love, safe travels and hugs to all fur kids. Silverdunes, Belgrizou and Elgato (the stay@home cats...for now)Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}Dandy Dan, often reading this thread I did cry... Even thinking of our departed furry friends, tears sometimes cannot stop falling, and my heart ached.... this thread help me go through so many hard times in my life. I understand your pain of not hugging your furry friends anymore, of not sharing your daily life with them. Every day, I think of Miko....This thread help some of us vent our pains and our happiness. It is part of our daily lifes; in Canada, in the USA and I hope also in other parts of the world, this thread had help many changed their ways, cared for our pets, and discover that in the RV world, there are many kind people with great heart, posting on the forum or reading it, that understand. Hope all are well (even if Kyle is sending rains and winds) and are having a great weekend, surrounded by their family, friends and pets.Re: Pet Pictures - READ MY STARTING POST B/4 POSTINGFirst time trying to post picture. Hope it works! Since that pict, Miko has departed our world. The two kids are with us and learning to walk with harnesses for our camping trips Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}As some of you may recall from rare posts I did, I am from Canada, and I wanted to nominate Dixie Flyer for the Animal Planet hero....there were probably also other readers from Canada and they probably will not be able to do it. I had fill up everything on Animal Planet and wrote the 250 words max text with their requirements for space etc...and without a US address I cannot submit or participate in the Animal Planet (due to the contest), we need to be US resident. I did not want to cheat by writing a US address and then creating trouble for Richard's nomination. Sad that I cannot show how far the dedication and love for animals that Dixie Flyer has, has touched people. I had hoped showing this may have helped in his nomination of Hero. This is the text I had written, maybe some people can used some of it and correct my English too :) "Richard Daniels, known as Dixie Flyer by RV’ers at RVNet, rescued a wounded stray dog from a campground, a few years ago. A Forum thread started the same day and this old stray became part of the Daniels family and known as 'Old Fella'. Dixie and Fella’s thread on RVnet forum created an internet family across USA & Canada. Readers have laughed, cried, rescued animals and even organized rallies, where people met and share with other followers of Fella's. Because of Old Fella, another stray dog, hurt and in need of amputation, got hospitalized, rescued and adopted…the other side of NA. Nothing stopped Richard! Fom East to West, he organized a group of RV’ers to bring the amputated rescue to her new home. Old Fella’s story and Richard’s devotion prompted many folks across USA & Canada to adopt rescue pets from shelters. Richard established the Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue, a non-kill shelter. Old Fella died from cancer, a week ago. Outburst of grief on Fella’s thread has been tremendous. Richard (and wife Sue) are heroes, and though Old Fella departed, his legacy lives on, inspiring animal lovers everywhere. Richard and the Fella’s RVnet family made me proud to be an RV’er. The example of love and dedication towards animals that Richard gives to us all, makes him my nomination for the reward."Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}I did not post often on this thread, though I was a faithful reader. To Richard and Sue, I am so sorry, and understand the time you are going through, as I have lost many furry friends....and I surely know that there is no words that will make the pain go away, this pain will only diminish with time, as the memories of Old Fella fills up our life and his legacy lives on. And to all the readers and friends of Old Fella, that have followed this thread, This thread brought a feeling of family, where all of us are link by the love we have for our furry friends and the joys of camping, shared Old Fella's life and accomplishments. It helped me in hard times, made me cry, made me laugh, but the most important, as Fulltimegrams22 said, the legacy of Olf Fella's thread, and the importance of rescuing stray cats or dogs. thanks Old Fella, have a great time with Levi, meet Miko and all the furry friends.Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}" Dixie Flyer wrote: I just have to share this with you. I know some of you have already heard this incredible talent and amazing story but I have been so taken by this man I have to post this link for you to hear him also. Paul Potts has become my new hero." It's been a while I did not post, still reading the thread, here in Montreal, but not daily anymore (unfortunately too busy). Dixie Flyer, you have shared so much on RVing, puppies and stories that make us smile and cry. Once again,I have to say thank you for sharing, this time, the link of Paul Potts with us. This man has a voice, but most of all, he has a soul, he loves singing and it shows! Thanks for making me discover this man with the pursuit of his dream. Will go see his show in Montreal in March. Long live to this thread, it brings the pleasure of RVing, of sharing and enjoying life with furry friends, with laughs and tears. Lost recently my 17 years old cat, we used to read together RV net; this thread help me a lot through hard times. Greetings to all from the cold white North!Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}Hello, I have not been a frequent contributor to this thread, though I try to read it daily, even camping. I enjoyed reading Richard's stories of the furbabies, following the adventures of the rescues, such as the 2 Anna's. One day we will be traveling with our furbabies and this thread and RVpetstop are so great in bringing knowledge, tips, smiles, tears and most of all showing that there is in the RVers community, respect, cooperation and love for pets. Keep the Old Fella's thread going!
