Just took delivery recently of my 2017 Northern Lite. Ford female sockets (bumper and in-bed) are standard RV 7-pin receptacles on our 2012 Ford F450. The male to male cord provided by Northern Lite reaches both as the dealer plugged ours into the bumper socket when we arrived. Hope this helps you. Feel free to PM me.Re: DRW plus TC combo - your recs jimh425 wrote: CuriosGeorge, again, your page says. I'm assuming you built it ... maybe not. Not my page, I did not build it. Meant to share for someone who has YET to purchase a truck camper. jimh425 wrote: Apparently, you are a member of the weight police, but if you've followed the discussions here enough, you would know that your statement isn't considered fact by everyone. You wish to toss "weight police". That's a bit ugly. If you notice my profile, you would know I just joined this site. Not very welcoming from my POV. No worries. Talked to a member of our Security Forces and Legal. They both take a different viewpoint than you/others. "Exceed your ratings and you are subject to litigious exposure, whether from law enforcement or barrister." jimh425 wrote: Not so simple, huh? Really wasn't the OPs question. If he/she wishes to change all of that, good luck. Far more than I wish to get into. I used to site to explore what ballpark I should be playing in. PERIOD. Thought it was worth sharing. You own a camper. The title of that page should be enough to know it was not meant for after the fact. jimh425 wrote: The vehicle would be safe even if was illegal. Not in my driveway. Been on the road a loooonnnnnnggggg time. This is not my first dance. Exceeding weights is a recipe for disaster and that is my opinion. You buy what you want. I'll do my best to steer clear. You can rationalize all you wish. jimh425 wrote: There are definitely dealers/manufacturers who will let you weight their TCs. Dude, relax and read. I said I did not know of any. jimh425 wrote: Enough of that ... a constructive comment about your calculator. I have an actual weight of my rig loaded. Given the actual load, tire size, axle ratings, your calculator should be able to tell me I'm safe. Alas, your calculator has no idea. It's looking for my trucks empty weight. Ok, if you intend your calculator to be only a prepurchase tool and a "guess" if someone who agrees with your guidelines might be safe or not. A - Not my calculator at all. B - Please read the darn title, brother. "Can My Truck Carry This Camper?" C - This one you missed too. - "Welcome to this site. This is a neat tool for someone to keep from getting in over their head. I just don't agree with the outcomes." Case closed, and end of conversation. Frankly, I wish you would consider how your text might read to someone else. Not sure you did that. Regret the conversation has gone on this long. I shared something that I strongly feel helped keep me from being unsafe on the road and a danger not only to my family, but to yours. I will continue to operate in a manner which I feel does that. The website I shared was to help the OP, or anyone else, shop for a rig. You are entitled to your opinion. MY question was simply "Why didn't the link post?" Not to get into an argument with you. I intend to own my TC for a bit and would like to stay on this forum. How about taking a hand of friendship and just move on for a while. This is sure getting old, fast. Re: DRW plus TC combo - your recs jimh425 wrote: I'm obviously not a mod, but without changing anything ... calculate on the page returns. Thanks? Maybe skip this response then? Not sure how you are helping here, sir. jimh425 wrote: Operate vehicle in compliance with all OEM specifications and LEGAL limits. How could you possibly know without the site I shared? He hasn't made a purchase yet. jimh425 wrote: That seems to be more opinion than fact. I'm not really seeing the point of the page. It seems to be a big oversimplification. Really sir? Nothing on that calculator states opinion. It is numbers driven. If you have your empty (no truck camper/you & a full fuel tank) weights, specs on your truck, raw specs on camper you want, it offers answers that should comfort (no issues) or concern (red letters tell you EXACTLY where you exceed truck/axle capactities) you. If you take the time to enter all your information, I fail to see how you would not appreciate what the calculator offers. I don't know any dealers who will allow you to leave their facility with their truck camper and let you go find a scale. YMMV.Re: DRW plus TC combo - your recs CuriousGeorge wrote: Getting familiar with this site will help you avoid a costly mistake. ***Link Removed*** Since the commercial site I linked was to compute weight and was NOT to promote anything but safe use of our truck campers/trucks, I am going to try to include this truck camper weight calculator again. http://www.visualsc.com/tc_calc.htm Hopefully, someone can explain why the link was removed. Not only do I wish to be safe, I hope those around me are safe, too.Re: DRW plus TC combo - your recs rvshrinker wrote: OK: so will you please propose a couple rigs that might fit the bill? . I would imagine you will get quite a few suggestions. I'm not going to go there. We went from a 5th wheel toy hauler to truck camper just recently. Given our dually truck, we really thought we could carry darn near anything. We were WRONG! That model year is all hat and no cattle for in-bed payload. Learned many lessons from that experience, and fortunately, did not make a regretful purchase. Getting familiar with this site will help you avoid a costly mistake. ***Link Removed*** We do not have kids at home (when we did we had a Class C, then a small Class A, and ultimately the big toy hauler) and grandkids are still a bit young to join us. Already had air bags; but upon suggestion of a few folks on base and the dealer we added upper and lower stable loads. Hope the calculator helps you with your decision-making.Re: How many Northern Lite owners do we have? (revision 2)New to truck camping and Northern Lite; but not new to RVs. Wife and I just took delivery of 10-2 EX CD SE 2017. We are currently at Seymour Johnson AFB, NC. Many thanks!Re: Placement of electric plug in truck bedI own a 2017 Northern Lite 10-2 EX SE CD sitting on a 2012 Ford F450 SuperDuty. In-bed connection is a reach from underneath the patio; but doable. Wife and I unplug at the Northern Lite end (we use about a 6' jumper) and lay it over the front of the LR fender of the dually. I think, for safety sake, I am going to use a long piece of bungee cord so I can ensure the cord doesn't fall under a tire. I do like laying it on the fender so I don't set the camper on it. Willing to send you pictures. Honestly, my dealer supplied the jumper. I see no reason to move your connection in the bed. Good luck!
