We made the trip from Georgia in 2013. I blogged about the entire trip. Here is a link to the list of campgrounds where we stayed https://wanderingdawgs.com/campground-list/. There is a search box near the bottom of the page where you can search for a place and find posts about the place. There is also a link at the top of the page to maps of our trip. Except for Banff and Teklanika in Denali we had no reservations anywhere. I don't know what it is like these days but we never had trouble finding a place to stay. I hope this information helps. It was the trip of a lifetime! Have fun and enjoy the journey!Re: Tybee Island, GA. Rivers End Campground./Info AppreciatedI am a local. In addition to what has already been said, the are many other things to do in Tybee and Savannah if everything is opened by back up by then. Be sure to take Captain Mike's Dolphin tour. Things are opening up gradually so you may want to check on specific things before you get here. Right now Fort Pulaski and the lighthoure are still closed. As of now some restaurants are still take out only, others are open with social distancing. Several have outdoor seating. Don't miss the Crab Shack or North Beach Grill. PM me if you have specific questions.Re: Building RV park near McKinney TX, what would you want most?Large sites with space between you and your neighbor, preferable with landscaping between sites. A picnic table at each site!! We hate pulling into a nice campground and not having a picnic table at our site.Re: Cammpground RantWe were traveling in the Hill Country around Easter in 2015. We had to leave Inks Lake on Good Friday. I started calling RV parks on Thursday and found a site at Riverway RV Park in Llano at the last minute. The staff was great and it just so happened the Llano Fiddle Fest was going on. Turned out to be a great weekend with a hike at Enchanted Rock, the Fiddle Fest, and Cooper's BBQ had some of the best BBQ we had in Texas. I hope you will be able to find something!Re: Large Back WindowSome Corps of Engineers parks and state parks have sites that back up to a body of water for a beautiful view out the back window. A few that come to mind are Seven Points COE near Nashville, R. Schaffer Heard on West Point Lake in Georgia, Winfield COE and Petersburg COE in Appling, Georgia, Maumelle COE in Little Rock, Cranes Mill COE on Canyon Lake, Texas. A few private parks have great views out the back window. Tom Sawyer RV Park in West Memphis, Arkansas has sites for fifth wheels that are designed so you have a view of the Mississippi River out your back window. We were in a back in site with a view of the bay at Baycrest RV Park in Homer, Alaska. When making reservations in federal campgrounds including COE, you can look at a map a choose a site on the water. Some state parks also have that option. You can also look at photos of many campsites at CampsitePhotos Enjoy the view!Re: Salt Spring CG half full, High Springs parksThis post caught my attention because we recently camped at O'Leno and drove around the area to take a look at Troy Springs State Park, Ichetucknee Springs SP and Ginnie Springs. The last time we were at Troy Springs was about 30 years ago when we were still scuba diving. Back then it was privately owned and you had to carry your tanks down to the water. The state has added a nice ramp down to the water and places to clean your dive gear. The water was high this March and it was closed for diving but we enjoyed seeing how much it has changed. I posted about the springs at O'Leno State Park and three more Florida SpringsRe: getting a 36 ft ttEvery national park, state park, and federal park has different site sizes. When you make reservations in federal parks you can view a list of all the available sites. The site size is displayed so you can figure out if are any where you will fit. Many state parks also show the size. We camp in a 35 foot fifth wheel and have camped in many state and Corps of Engineers parks without any problems. When I am in doubt about a site, I call the park directly. We have camped in a few national parks including Zion and Everglades. Good luck! Happy trails!Re: Natchez Trace ParkwayIf you are tired of going the same way every time, and you have plenty of time to get there, go for it. We've never been on the Natchez Trace but it sounds like it would a lot of fun. We have often taken the long way to get somewhere just because there is something we want to see. We have discovered really interesting and fun things in out of the way places. Several years ago we started following the three three three rule when we are traveling in the RV. We travel less than 300 miles a day (less than 200 is even better), stay at least 3 nights in each place, and try to stop by 3:00 pm. We usually go to our destination one way, and return a different way so we can see more of our beautiful country. We find that when we travel slower and stop to see things along the way we enjoy the trip a lot more. Wishing you safe travels and happy trails!Re: Summer tip up thru MI, WI and MnMinnesota - Itasca State Park for the Headwaters of the Mississippi River has two nice campgrounds, Temperance River State Park on Lake Superior to see the beautiful Minnesota North Shore. My blog post about Minnesota Wisconsin - We enjoyed the Door County Peninsula and on another trip camped beside the Mississippi River at Grant River COE in Petosi. My blog post about Wisconsin Michigan - Muskegon State Park on Lake Michigan, Lakeport State Park on Lake Huron and Porcupine Mountains on Lake Superior. We enjoyed going to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Macinac Island, Soo Locks, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and seeing the waterfalls at Tahquamenon Falls State Park. My blog post about MichiganRe: texas hill countryAs someone else mentioned, try to plan your trip when the bluebonnets are blooming. We liked Cranes Mill COE campground on Canyon Lake and Inks Lake State Park for touring the area. Lots of beautiful drives around the area and lots of good BBQ.
