All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsArctic Fox 27-5L Height with 2nd A/CI am lookin at this 5th wheel but have a concern. Brochure height is 13' 5". When I contacted Northwood about the height when ordering it with the from AC, they said it would add "several inches" to the height. I am on the east coast. I have an interstate bridge near me that has a 13' 9" clearance. I don't know if there are any shorter on the interstate. I do not want to sg=have the top of an air conditioner. Does anyone have this model with the front lo-pro AC? If so, hit anything? How low a clearance bridge have you squeaked under? Thanks!Re: FORD F-150 AXLE RATIO CHOICEEngine and transmission performance is fine. I should have mentioned that. It's seat of the pants with regard to sway, proposing etc. Even after adjusting hitch and weight balance. This is where I think the long bed and the payload package would help. If I ordered a truck those options, I wouldn't be posting on this thread. The 3.5 eco can pull some weight for sure.Re: Alliance 5th WheelsMy wife and I drove four hours round trip to look at an Alliance. Wish I had my gas money back.... Nothing special at all. As mentioned, the AC is not ducted. Look at some pics on line. Same AC in the living area as I have in my cheap TT. And if you look at them in person you will find more WTH items. The kool-aid is strong with this brand. But dig a little, and it's the same old s***.Re: FORD F-150 AXLE RATIO CHOICEI bought a 2020 F150 Lariat CC SB 3.5 eco boost with max tow package and 3.55 off the lot in April. Not real happy with the towing performance. Towing a 2021 Grand Design Imagine XLS 22RBE. If I did it again, I would order it. But I would add the HD payload package (without a doubt!) to the max tow pkg, and a long bed. These add tremendous capability to the F150. There is no way I would get a 3.31 rear. Never. I consider a 3.55 a minimum for any towing with a gas engine.Re: Grand Design vs Mini Winnie plus?Opposite in my area. GD selling all day long around $26K and the Winnie is over $30K. Couple things I don't like with the Winnie is the floor mounted heat registers. Crumb catchers I call them. GD has none on the floor. Another thing I don't like, but is correctable, is my dealer gets them all with fireplaces. That takes away the pantry and extra wardrobe leaving you with precious little space. But, the winnie has some bigger TV's :-). Pluses and minuses to both. If I were buying, I'd lean to the GD for a few extra pluses and a less expensive price. No matter what you choose, cross your fingers for a good one.Re: Famed Durham NC bridge will no longer kill as many ACsI live very close to the 11-8 in Durham. The sign you see overhead on the bridge flashes warning lights to indicate the vehicle is too tall, not mention all the signs on the bridge and leading up to it. There are turnoff roads you see in the video before committing to the underpass. There are many alternate routes that can be used. Trying to fix stupid is expensive.Re: The mother of all stupid truck camper questions....Thanks for the advice and the links. I imagine we will get the hang of it after trying a little bit. Just don't want to end up in someones driveway in the dark. I'm probably overthinking it.The mother of all stupid truck camper questions....My wife and I are considering a TC for some travelling when retired. Part of the potential fun and cost saving of a TC is boondocking. The pictures we see of some boondocking sites are amazing. But....where the heck do you boondock? I'm in NC so there isn't any barren desert or anything. All I can think about is someone banging on the door at night saying private property and have to move. I don't think I can just pull off anywhere, so where /how do you discover these spots? How do I know when I turn onto a dirt road or something I won't get stuck? I have not been out west so I assume it's easier out there to find spots. But in general, I'd like some tips. I have an 2018 F350 diesel dually 4x4 (not FX4) and would get the TC reasonably equipped for a few days of boondocking at a time. We are "wanna-be" adventurers. Newbies if you will.Re: Financing questionAlway best to have the cash to buy. But then don't. As long as you have the liquid assets to cover the note, you're safe. Invest it and see a 8% average return (mine is about 10% over the last 10 years) and not only have your returns cover the RV interest, but also some of the principle. Others peoples money for big ticket items is always the best choice.Re: Another Newbie Question about BrandsArctic Fox is nice, but $60k. So budget might come into play here. Most of these 28'-30' are going to be less than about $45k. If no budget, then I would agree with the Arctic Fox suggestion. Good bones on the Fox's rather than Lippert.
