Nothing fancy -- not a resort. Thanks for the recommendation, it's in the right place and the price is good.Places to stay from San Jose to YellowstoneIt's been a while since I posted, work is always crazy busy for me, which is as much of a blessing and a curse at the same time. I did manage to get reservations at Grant's Village for our truck and trailer (no hookups) in August and would like to hear from others that have traveled this route. We have a popup and love our trailer, but we also have a really nice tent & gear that we could take there in our Prius. I'm sure that we could make it in 2 days with the Prius, but not with the trailer. We're getting older, and we can't decide at 11 pm at night to drive somewhere like we used to. Oh, the good old days! We'd be taking Hwy 80 to 93 through Twin Falls to 86. I don't know if we could make it to Winnemucca the first night and there seem to be very few places to stay along the way nearby. If you've traveled this route I would be grateful for your comments.Re: What do you leave behind when gone for the day?Put a tablecloth on the table, leave some stuff on the table, leave a couple of chairs around the fire pit, that's the minimum, but if you're really paranoid about this pitch a small tent.Re: Hard Sided Pop Up QuestionsWe have a Trailmanor, haven't posted here in a while here though. We've owned it since 2003 and we still love it. We have a 2720 with a queen bed in the back and a full in the front. The dinette also turns into a full bed, when we bought it we had two kids at home and now they've both moved out so we have it all to ourselves, which is kind of nice. There have been a lot of different models over the years.Re: Why no soap?I think that sometimes moms take their little boys into the ladies rooms and the little ones pee all over the seat...can't really see a woman doing that... I used to have to clean bathrooms at a fast food joint before closing up at a fast food place, the men's bathrooms were definitely the worst. Glad I don't have to do that any more.Re: Tesla S w/TrailManorThis is an interesting post...on the TrailManor board someone with a Tesla Model X is pulling a TM. They only made one post on the board, but they had carefully figured out where they could charge their rig on their way from CA to UT. The post was from a while ago, but apparently there are more and more charging stations everywhere. If you aren't in a hurry, why not?Re: Palm Spring then San Diego with kids jukes wrote: WishWeWereCamping wrote: Sam's Family Spa in Desert Hot Springs. Family friendly, great pool, great mineral pools, plus a sauna Close to Joshua Tree for some great hikes. Take the back road for some fun up and down road sections in the TV! Palm Springs/Desert Hot Springs is a long trip from Santa Cruz, we've made the trip many times. Call now if you want reservations after Christmas, it's very popular and there are tons of people from up north going there at that time of the year. Sam's also has hotel rooms (not fancy) with kitchens that might accommodate you. It's less crowded after New Year's, depending on what day of the year it is. Our kids loved Sam's. We haven't been there for a while, but they had a clubhouse with ping pong tables, a pool table, & TV. It's not new and sophisticated, but kind of funky and comfortable (and clean). Sam's is a little bit away from Palm Springs, but there are stores, restaurants and other services within a short drive. The Coachella Valley Natural Area is pretty cool too. Thanks for this info, it's so useful because this was definitely the RV Park that stood out as family friendly. The idea of the hot springs is enticing, but Sam's has such randomly good and bad reviews! however I like the sound of it! Would you base yourselves there and just drive to Joshua Tree or camp there a night or two too? You must live near us, we live in Aptos! We are near the KOA in La Selva. We've never camped in Joshua Tree but liked it enough to go back at least twice every trip. It can get pretty cold there in January. Doesn't take very long to get there from Sam's, depending on what you want to see. I bought a book called "On Foot in Joshua Tree" that had some nice easy hikes. Can't find it right now but it's available on Amazon.Re: Palm Spring then San Diego with kidsYou may also want to visit Death Valley on that trip...it's amazing. Great time of the year for going there.Re: Palm Spring then San Diego with kidsSam's Family Spa in Desert Hot Springs.
