So you need to have projected extended below freezing temps for there to be problems which require fuel treatment at the pump. I'm not from Texas but I'd be surprised if they do much of anything to the straight #2 in San Antonio. And if they do, they can treat with chemicals instead of adding #1 diesel. You won't know unless you ask - and expect a blank stare unless you are at a truck stop. So I don't think that's the problem here. Even if they treat with #1, I'd guess the percentage is small. Did the MPG drop right after the air cleaner change ? Has it thrown any codes ? Diesels are un-throttled engines. They flow a huge amount of air. I would go back to the OEM filter system and see if MPG goes back up. When something changes, I always look back at the last thing I did - that's usually what caused the change. If you go back to a paper filter, get the Ford one. The after market versions can collapse due to the large airflow. I get about 14-15 mpg around town from my 2013 F350 4x4 dually. I get over 20 mpg at 55-60 mpg and about 19 mpg at 65. All non-towing.Re: Low profile aux fuel tankI have an RDS tank that fits below the rails. I also have a tonneau cover that rolls up. I had looked into a hard, foldable cover but found that even though the tank sits below the rails, there was interference with the hard cover's mechanicals that were attached to the underside and extended below the top of the rails. So I went to Plan B. But I found that I really liked the roll-up.Re: More fifth wheel questions.I wouldn't want a louvered tailgate for security reasons. I have a tonneau cover on my truck primarily to keep everything 'out of sight, out of mind' (aux fuel tank, hitch, 'stuff'). Replacing the OEM tailgate with a louvered one would leave everything under the cover open to view thru the louvers. I full time so it's one or the other all the time in the tailgate department. I'm a believer that lots of crimes are crimes of opportunity. Not seeing what's in the bed of my truck may cause the bad guy to move on.Re: 2018 SuperDuty DRW - 3.55 or 4.10 Gears?4X4ord - What an excellent post !Re: 2018 SuperDuty DRW - 3.55 or 4.10 Gears?OP - It looks like you have a SRW now. What size tires are on it ? What is the 6th gear ratio in your current manual trans ?Re: 2018 SuperDuty DRW - 3.55 or 4.10 Gears? When crunching all these numbers, keep in mind that the DRWs only come with 17 inch wheels but SRWs can have 18 or 20 inch wheels. My point is that at a given speed, the RPMs will be different. And I'm not sure that all the posts on this thread apply to a DRW, which is what you state you will be getting. A couple hundred RPM one way or the other could make a difference to your decision. Also, you now have a manual trans. You might want to compare the individual ratios, especially for 4th, 5th, and 6th between your manual trans and the auto trans that is offered on the 2018s. Not sure what the ratio is for 5th or 6th in your manual but 5th is 0.85 and 6th is 0.67 in the auto.Re: 2018 SuperDuty DRW - 3.55 or 4.10 Gears?" I don't really know what the impact of tow/haul mode is. Will the tranny still upshift to 6th (I assume is an overdrive gear) while in tow/haul mode? BradW " Tow/haul mode is a wonderful thing. Tow/haul mode stretches out the shift points when going up thru the gears, allowing the engine to rev higher before shifting up to the next gear. So it will shift into 6th - just later then if not in tow/haul mode. Tow/haul also will shift down a gear each time you touch the brakes, assuming the computer knows that downshift will not over-rev the engine. Very nice when you tip over that mountain pass and start down. FWIW, with my 3.73 gears, I turn about 1650-1700 revs at 60 mph. I usully tow at about 62 with absolutely no problems. Max torque comes in at 1600. * I get the impression that you're unsure if these trucks can safely tow in 6th gear. They can - easily. Tow/haul does not inhibit that at all. You can run 55 mph in 6th all day with no problem if you want to. I have noticed an amazing situation many times when hooked up and towing in town. If I am sitting at a red light and take my foot off the brake, the truck and trailer start moving forward - at idle speed. I've even noticed this when I am sitting on a slight upward incline - It starts chugging forward. I am just amazed this is possible.Re: Off Topic Medical PleaThat's the justification for my weekly trips to the local Chinese restaurant to get an order of Garlic Chicken !Re: Off Topic Medical PleaSo does anyone know why the flu comes around during winter ? Or why it seems to start in Asia ? Inquiring minds want to know.Re: Off Topic Medical Plea ktmrfs wrote: the pneumonia vacine is actually TWO shots given a year apart. and they require at least a year between the shots. they are for two variants of pneumonia. while this years flue vaccine isn't as effective as many past years, even if it doesn't prevent the flu, it will in most cases make it less potent for any variety. So you may still get pretty sick, but likely not as sick as if you didn't get a shot at all. and with all that, starting in march, anyone over 60 or maybe 50 should get the new shingles vacine. shingrinex. it is vastly superior to the existing vaccine. Get it even if you already have had the exisiting shingles vaccine. My doc talked to me about the new shingles vaccine too. He said you will need 2 shots. Each shot is about $200 and not covered by Medicare.
