Trailer manufacturers are known for providing the absolute minimum so if you load anything in the trailer or use it more than every few months, the springs will go bad. It's not a hard job - you just need lot's of jack stands and be very careful to stabilize everything. Looks like you need to add at least 1 leaf over your current springs, but bring your trailer weights to the spring shop and they can help you. Should cost no more than $400 for new springs, shackles, and bolts. Be sure and get the heavy-duty shackle kit - price is minimal and well worth the money.Re: Dump RageIf the line's busy I just wait until I get home and dump my tanks in the lawyer's yard down the street.Re: New Rv add onsX2 on the tires. Unless they have Saliuns or something similar, demand they put decent tires on. Otherwise tell them to knock off $1,000 since you'll need to replace them. If they won't, walk away. Also make sure you have an upgrade from the standard pin box - the most common Lippert 1621 has many replacement options. Also be sure and look at the suspension and have them put on a decent wet bolt/beefed up hangers otherwise you'll end up replacing them yourself. I would also see if they have stabilizers at the back. Many units will have a level-up system that goes just behind the rear tires, but nothing on the back and it can get pretty bouncy.Re: leaf spring hanger reinforcementI can get to the zerk fittings pretty easily with them facing outside. The cross beams are only welded across the leaf hangers - they're not attached to the frame although that's not a bad idea. Here's another angle: Moderator edit to re-size picture to forum limit of 640px maximum width. leaf spring hanger reinforcementI know there have been several posts on this. Before a 2,000 mile trip I wanted to replace the cheap leaf springs and shackles that came stock. I have about 13,000 pounds on two 7,000 pound axles, so right at the limit when loaded. My springs were flat after only a year so I had a local spring shop make 4,000 pound springs, put on a Morryde heavy duty shackle wet bolt kit, and then welded some cross-beams across all three leafs. It is much more stable and now I'm not worried about breaking off the hangers when making a tight turn. Overall cost was about $500. Still amazes me the manufacturers make such cheap suspensions. Pretty much made for occasional short trips to a local campground, but I wouldn't trust them for long hauls. Moderator edit to re-size pictures to forum limit of 640px maximum width. Re: SafetyIf you have a firearm, why wouldn't you bring it with you? If the choice is between my family's safety and some low-life trying to get something for nothing, I know who will win in that scenario. If you're properly trained and keep it stored safely, this is an easy one.Re: How many take boats with them?We do occasionally, but it ends up being a lot of work for just the weekend. For holiday weekends I'll pull the fiver and the DW will pull the boat. For just a few days I prefer to just relax and not have to worry about unpacking and repacking 2 different toys - just my 2 cents.
