Re: Onan Microlite 4000 shaft locks up on occasion
When Onan went to the aluminum block on the Nhm’s and Bge’s they weighed around 270, the Cck weighed over 300 with the cast iron block and they had 3.5 quarts of oil and oil filters and ran at 1800 rpm’s. The 4000 microlite weighs around 170, 1.6 quarts of oil no oil filter and runs at 3600 rpm. I can’t help that they had to stay competitive. I’m not arguing with anybody. Onan had to move to 3600 rpm from 1800 rpm to stay competitive in the market for generators that’s the name of the game. They are not made like the Ws3 or the Cck that were made to last forever. I’ve seen a spec K microlite piston rings stuck on the ridge, if the Op can’t find any reason it’s getting stuck he needs to pull the head and look at the piston. All I know is a guy brought to me a stuck 4000 microlite and I pulled the head and had to hit it with a 2x4 to get it off the ridge. Granted he didn’t take care of it as it had 1800 hrs on it. The only way to know is pull the head when it is stuck. When you can’t find anything all you can do is pull the head. Batteries were up this morning after surface charge went off to 12.7 volts. I’m going to talk to the guys that sell batteries at interstate about this type of charger they recharge a lot of batteries and resell them, I’ve bought some that lasted a long time. I have the lawnmower battery charged all the way with the charger, it’s surface charge is sitting at 13.19 by my meter, I’ll let it set tonight and get the surface charge of of it and check it in the morning. New batteries on my diesel truck, they check good by my meter. I know this auto charger doesn’t heat up batteries like the old 2 amp manual charger’s. If I find a used one, would it hurt a sealed battery? I wish I had a PD with charge wizard in the barn, they’re so nice.2KViews0likes0Comments
