Progressive for us was cheaper. $600 a year for full replacement (no ACV). I'm sure it will go up as the RV ages but it was half what GEICO offered. Why? Progressive places a high value on credit score, claim free and continuous insurance without interruption. If you tick all those boxes (790+) the rates drop a lot, where as some companies like GEICO are better for middle market folks but higher than ultra preferred with progressive. This isn't universal, but a general rule of thumb at least in our state where we are insured. As an agent for 16 years you could see a few variables and know exactly where someone would fit for the best rate. There are little things like Comp claim or not being married or not having a degree that can disqualify you from a top tier rate. You would never know it when you call in but you'd be amazed at what they use to determine risk.Re: Brands that are well built for winter??You can survive in a heavy duty tent and even be comfortable in almost any temperature with a big enough furnace and enough fuel. Stick with something 2.5 inch to 3 inch which is the max sidewall, skirt and keep a lot of propane and you'll be fine. Make sure the under belly gets heat and heat tape your hose. Skirt. Enjoy the winter. We dont' notice a significant different between our DRV or our Momentum. I feel both of the fifth wheels were better insulated than our Newmar DP.Re: Upstairs Living RoomThey are fine if you want them The plus side is they look big, especially with opposing slides. Personally I don't like the low ceilings in the room I'm going to spend most of my awake time in. I also don't like how the kitchen is completely separate and below since my wife likes to watch the boob tube while cooking or doing stuff. The areas feel very separate. You can get rear living units that are just as big, still have the high ceilings and retain a separate living kitchen area without closing the two off to each other. I think there are better floor plans.Re: RV refrigerator vs residential refrigeratorResidential fridges are far more efficient. RV fridges, especially the larges ones, take upwards of 8x the electric to run vs residential in warm weather. I just swapped out my Norcold in September when I saw that it was cost over $45 a month in electric on its own vs $6 for my new LG fridge. We had a samsung in our Newmar and loved it. We had a whirlpool in our DRV and loved it Hated our RV fridges and couldnt' wait to get rid of it. One of the first major projects we did after we bought the Momentum.Re: Grand Design QualityGrand design does stuff better, they also do things worse than others. RV's are a mixed bag, they are very similar. Now we felt overall, floor plan and quality that GD was best for us, otherwise we wouldn't of purchased. That said, they are mostly similar for the most part but I'd put GD over some and on par with others. I would buy a Momentum again. In fact I'd seek out the brand. I would not buy a DRV again, even pre sale to Thor, much less after the sale. I would buy a Newmar again. It's a house that goes 60mph + down the road. You are going to have trouble with it at some point. We are quite pleased with the response we have received from grand design and their willingness to let me fix stuff and just send me a check. They've worked with us on the few minor issues we've had over the last 6 months and I'd buy another one in a heart beat.Re: extended RV warrantiesThe dealer will thank you for buying a high commission product from them.Re: Have you seen the smart Airstreams? Not worried about it getting hacked. I am worried about cheap Lippert **** breaking and not being able to put on my Air or pull in my awning.Re: Youtube TV, a positive experienceWe use YTTV and Philo for the additional channels. Virtually no overlap and when we travel we keep our local DVR recordings and still get the new location locals as well. Excellent services. Even works well over 4g.Re: Gap insurance and total replacement coverageGet Gap on your insurance policy not from the dealer. It will pay an extra 25% over the value. Better than that is to get a full replacement or stated value policy from progressive. No depreciation.Re: Durability of fifth wheel vs fifth wheel toy hauler? They last as long as you take care of them. Keep water out and maintain them, they will last longer than you. Even the cheapest trailer can be kept virtually a lifetime. So when shopping, at this age range, initiak quality means nothing. Unit that was left to rot will rot, doesn't matter if it's Forest River, newmar, etc.
