Question: When my 5th wheel trailer is hooked up to my pick-up truck can I operate the slide outs without running the battery down. Operating it out then back in? I will keep the engine running while I am operating the slide outs. My truck is a 2013 Ford F350 6.7 litre Diesel with two batteries in the truck under the hood. Another question: The battery in the trailer has a switch for turning on & off. When traveling down the road, Should that switch be on or off. If it's off I my pick-up truck charging the trailer battery?Re: PDI walk through tomorrowLooking back on my walk through...it was fair, not great. Sort of a joke, looking back on it. The manufacturers videos are good. Doing a lot of reading the owner's manual. I can tell that DOING will be the best teacher.Re: PDI walk through tomorrowPicked up the RV on 09/17/16, Saturday. Went very well for that part. I also bought a 5th wheel hitch from the same dealer. Drove 50 miles home ( one Way )& the whole time I heard a loud clunking noise. The farther we went the worse it became. Spent the night home but did not disconnect the trailer then the next morning went to drop the trailer at a storage yard. After that I inspected the hitch & found it loose. DANG!!! Went back to the dealership 50 miles one way this morning & they removed it & reinstalled it correctly ( I HOPE ). Have not pulled the trailer yet though. Going to a camp site this coming Friday & will check it then. That will be our familiarization trip. Wishing myself good luck.Re: PDI walk through tomorrowNow I am really worried. It seems like when you make a purchase that big there should be NO PDI problems at all. If the dealer takes an attitude with me for asking a lot questions or for any other reason then I am out of there. I am too old & have gone through too much in my lifetime to be mistreated at this point in my life. Being an ex-Paratrooper I don't take much pushing around. Hopefully it will be a nice experience. I'm a little nervous but still looking forward to getting on the road with the new trailer.PDI walk through tomorrowHey, Y'all. Tomorrow at 1:30 PM I have my PDI walk through. I have read a lot on this site and on the Internet in general. I have compiled several lists on what to look for. I hope that the company that sold me the 5th wheel RV trailer won't be upset with me. I will be armed with a lot of questions. This site and other sites on the Internet have given me a lot of insight on what to expect. Some of the check lists that I downloaded are really good & I even added to the list some questions that I thought of. I will be filming the PDI with my Sony HD camcorder as someone on this site suggested that I do. Should be fun. Thank you to everyone for offering information to me.Re: Picking up new 5th wheel RV trailer 09/17/16We purchased a five year warranty. VERY expensive though. It will be in storage during the winter months until my wife retires in three more years.Re: Picking up new 5th wheel RV trailer 09/17/16 garyp4951 wrote: Tom, I'm sure you will love the Silverback, and the customer service from Cedar Creek is great. Be sure to buy the 2nd year warranty from Forest River for $150 within I think 30 days of purchase. I only ran the stock tires on mine for one year, and replaced them with Bridgestone Duravis R250's, in a 245 size. Re: Picking up new 5th wheel RV trailer 09/17/16I thought when they took possession of the vehicle that they were supposed to go over it & check the roof & all the other areas for any defects. Guess not. I don't really care how long the PDI lasts because I want it to be in the best shape possible. I hadn't planned on checking the roof but I sure will now. thanks for the advice.Re: Picking up new 5th wheel RV trailer 09/17/16 Halmfamily wrote: Don't sign any paperwork until your walk through is completed and all issues you find are corrected and meet your standards. Our PDI lasted three hours and we went over every single square inch of our fifth wheel. Take a flash light so you can look into every crack and crevice. I used a multimeter and checked all outlets and the charging system. Don't forget the roof, check all seems for cracks or loose caulking and have them throw in some vent covers while your at it. Congrats and good luck with your new adventure.
