All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Replacing Steel Wheels With AluminumI went from 15" steel wheels to 16" aluminum wheels and re-used some of the old ones. They both called for conical seat hex nuts, so it was no problem. It just depends on type of seat.Re: F250 Towing capacities?F250s have a lower payload. 5th Wheels place about 22% to 25% of their weight on the tow vehicle. Conventional towing places 12% to 15% on the tow vehicle. Just a math problem.Re: Towing truckI would personally opt for the 2000 F350 for that 5th Wheel. Hard to beat the 7.3 for reliability, and the crew cab is a bonus.Re: Places to Stay near San Antonio, TXAnother spot to consider is the KOA off Gembler Rd. We stayed here several years ago, and it worked well for us. Easy 10 minute bus rude to downtown, and it sits on the Salado Creek Greenway. I'm generally not a big fan of KOAs, but this one worked well for our needs.Re: Update on transmission leakBottom line is that the stock cooler is not sufficient as Disk Doctor said, the 6.0 cooler is hard to beat. That said the right (mild) tune for towing can help the transmission with better towing shift points. I paid 4K for a BTS, but drive with confidence knowing I'll never need another tranny.Re: Sheep Invasion!Cool pics! Thanks for sharing.Re: Good bye Shell RotellaYou can still find good synthetic CJ-4 oil for order. Saw this over on the FTE forums. I may be ordering it for my next change. I'm currently running T6 CK-4 in my old 7.3 with Archoil. This oil below meets Ford's WSS M2C171-E specs, which I believe is the spec through the 2016 MY. Triax OilRe: The real HP/TQ numbers this is going to hurt! These fellas seem to be fixated on torque much more so than HP. The Ford had almost 50 HP over the Dodge. With torque management and driveline variances it is a wash, even with the Chevy. The GM trucks are the best looking, and if the deal was right they would still get much consideration in my book.Re: My Ford E350 running a bit hotterHigh tranny temps may cause fluid leakage from the front seal or the vent at the top of the transmission. Once cooled the seals will be OK in most cases. I run the tru-cool cooler and rarely see temps over 180, and that was fighting a mighty head wind across Texas in 100° temps. I left my stock cooler on there for about ten years, but removed it a couple of years ago with no difference in cooling.Re: Changing Axle Ratio from 3.73 to 4.10 and GCWRScott, I would get the truck you want with the 3.73, and wait to see how it tows for you. You may find it just right for your needs. 4.10s are nice, but not a necessity for sure. If after some time towing you still feel the need then it may be worth the $1000 to $2000 for you. Don't worry about the weights other than your F/RAWR and the GVWR along with your tire capacities. People re-gear vehicle all the time, and it's no big deal. Good luck in your search.
