You boys sure love/hate your hitches.. :) If the OP is still listening>>> Buy a hitch that fits the puck system you already have. I am not for or against any brand hitch but it doesn't make sense that you would work around the puck system by installing rails over top of it. If I was in your shoes, I would get the B&W that fits the system and is rated for your weight (and then some). Sounds like you already were looking at the companion anyway. happy trails. decided to get the companion........The hitch came in two seperate boxes...one yesterday and one today...the box that came today was the base and the box was in terrible shape and there were large gouges and deep scratches down to the bare metal on it...gonna have to call the company tomorrow...looks like it fell off the truck and bounced down the road...for the price we paid i want a new one without damageRe: Looking 4 seasonal site in N.Conway/Bartlett NH area..Check out danforth bay. IMHO If the $1,159 is too much for the puck system Companion I would do as MeAgain suggests and get the Demco Picture frame adapter and use your hitch. Personally i would sell what you have and buy the B&W. You will thank me! Does anyone know if the B&W 20K Companion will work with the gooseneck part of the RAM? If so that would be a good option also. we may just bite the bullet but I was wondering is it definitely a more stable way of towing then using the picture frame with the current hitch..I mean I want ta decent hitch and I want to be comfortable towing ...I remember when we got our long travel trailer years ago we bit the bullet and bought a Hensley hitch and we never regretted it ...is this going to be something like that where it's such a good thing that we should just invest in it thank you in other words I'm just wondering what makes it worth it paying all that extra money if a less expensive will do the same thing what is the difference...we are not full timers at this point and probably never will be but it would be nice to be able to tow for longer distances than just 2 to 3 hours and feel comfortableRe: 5th wheel hitch for puck system Cummins12V98 wrote: "Discovered that the Curt is a little more temperamental coupling and uncoupling" As I mentioned on your other post Curt and Reese can be difficult to hitch. Seems like the companion only comes in one size 25,000 pounds our trailer is approximately 16,000 ...would like to keep the price down as much as possible ...we had to upgrade our tow vehicle and We have a wedding to pay for this year so finances are getting tight ...thanksRe: Picking up new truck tom0rrow Cummins12V98 wrote: kimomjtb wrote: Cummins12V98 wrote: Great truck and congrats! Great truck deserves a great hitch. . Dh just got home and yes it does have the puck system so it looks like we're going to need a different hitch… Are there different sizes in the companion hitch ? it looks like I only am only seeing one and it's goes to 25,000 pound weight capability…our trailer dry weight is around 13,000 so 25,000 seems a little overkill ..would really like to have the dealership install as dh,doesn't really want to be bothered with it and not to mention wants to make sure it's done the right way…but I'm just wondering if it would be less expensive for us to get it ourselves versus having them get it..any places that you would recommend getting it from… Seems like it's around 1200 which I am not happy with… Funds are running low and we still have a wedding to pay for this year??...and other any other hitches that would work with this truck that may be a little less expensive ? curt or reese? http://i.imgur.com/wTAbh3bl.jpg[/IMG] As,long as we got the aisin tranny the 373"s was not a make or break deal..would have taken 342 or the 410's ..but was happy with 373...didnt feel the need for the 4.10 'and was hopjng for possibly a bit better gas mileage....took a long rime finding the truck with the right tranny the right color the right interior etc. that my husbamd wanted...We do have a hitch that we got last fall when we bought our fifth wheel ..it's a slider hutch and it's a husky ...would that would be fine to use ?...going to go to the dealer and check it out for installation when my husband gets back...is there really a need for a certain type of hitch because were blind on this ...this is what the dealer sold us when we bought our 5th wheel If you have the factory puck system I would advise selling your hitch and getting a B&W as shown above.
