Less rain and fewer folks abroad.Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos67, I’m in for Muley Point in September! Final dates TBA. Yoo-hoo!Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photosDang, 67, you captured the place as surely as if you’d taken a photograph! September would be lovely. Thunderstorms rolling through. Water in the lake warm enough for swimming. Let’s make a plan. The years are slipping by…Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos67, very glad to see you’re ready for the road! Having a patch installed by Chuck Cayo himself certainly adds to the provenance of your rig. Any plans for travel this year? Muley Point beckons but remains elusive…Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photosTCBob, good post and thank you for pointing out the concern. I share that concern and installed the deadbolt to secure the door when I’m not around Argo. I don’t use it when I’m inside. The Bargeman works fine to lock from the inside and open easily. I rely on Shep, my German Shepherd to provide any additional security I require… Hope to meet you on the road somewhere. CkRe: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photosRasta, I too was concerned with the original Bargeman door set in terms of security. I added a Kwikset deadbolt lock that is key-activated on both sides. This means to lock or unlock from inside or out requires a key. My thought process was that if someone broke the door window and reached in they would be unable to unlock the door. I suppose they could crawl through the broken door window but is not a snatch and grab strategy. Now, I don’t know if this would work on the original door - it’s a pretty flimsy construction of wood and cardboard and may or may not allow one to drill for the deadbolt lock. You’ll recall that my whole rig is framed in square aluminum tubing so I was able to create an aluminum panel to accommodate the lock set. I then created an opening for the actual bolt in the doorframe. It’s all very secure. For power, I used a 30amp marine shore power plug. They are very durable and made for tough conditions. I’m ready for Muley Point - just need a little advance notice! 67 needs to be up and running before we plan that outing!Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photosHappy New Year, fellow Avionistas! We’re backstroking along in the atmospheric river here in Northern California and I’m thinking hard about going to the desert pretty soon to dry things out! I’ve been driving Argo, the all-aluminum camper, regularly back and forth between home in the Santa Cruz mountains and the fishing house near Mt Shasta. It’s a great ride and makes Annie and the dogs mighty happy to have lots of room. I’m at about 14 MPG on the freeway. A big hit at the gas pump with diesel having been around $6 a gallon… It’s great to see some life on the forum. I’d be up for a Muley Point rendezvous this year. I’m hoping to get to the Overland Expo event in Oregon this July. Missed it the last two years because of Covid. 67, I’m glad to hear you got into Chuck Cayo’s shop. He was a great resource for me when I was making Argo. Hope your’s comes out good as new!Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photosRoamlab, I’ve been accepted as a DIY exhibitor at the last two Expos but the Covid spike put me off. The prospect of showing hundreds of folks the ins and outs of Argo was unnerving… Hopefully 2023 will be doable. I’m keen to see what else is out there in the overland world.Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photosHello fellow Avionistas! We have certainly been a quiet group of late. It’s nice to catch up on events. 67, I am horrified to hear your accidents, both of them, and hope that you and your Avion are on the mend. Actually, I hope your medical care is as good as Chuck Cayo’s care of your Avion will be. Rather like going to the Mayo Clinic! Rasta, leaving Big Bend after all these years… that’s quite a change, but it is a long way from Florida. I saw that the Rio stopped flowing through the canyons in the park this summer. I never imagined that could happen. I’m still hoping to arrive at Muley Point in this lifetime. I had thought to go to Lake Powell this spring but another low water cancellation. I did take my first extended trip in Argo, the all-aluminum camper last fall. A month-long western states fishing tour with my German Shepherd buddy, Shep. We had a fabulous time, camping in wild places, along river banks, in the wide open Great Basin. Every system worked as it was supposed to. Easy cooking. Hot showers. Cozy nights. I was very pleased. These days I’m using Argo to travel back and forth to my fishing house near Mt Shasta, a 700 mile round trip. I find that the truck’s AC keeps the camper’s interior cool for the dogs, even when it 100 outside - while we are driving, of course. The dogs love the space and that makes Annie happy. Readjusting to life after Covid is bit odd. Glad to have an Argo to get away in. Hope all of you are doing well. Still love to have a meet up somewhere out west. I’m open to anything. I’m planning on being at the Overland Expo in Oregon next July. Any of you interested in that destination? Dick
