Don't think someone should use power tools/gear/etc that early.Re: Solar wires on roof - waterproofing connectors? You could maybe use a junction box. I set mine up where I put the whole connection/junction of wires in one spot. Inside a nice closed plastic box with weather sealed screws on the lid. Cut the bottom of the box out over the spot where I my single drilled hold goes down into the RV, into a inside wall opening where I ran all the wires. Then caulked and sealed around the box on roof really good. Almost 10 years now and never a problem or a leak. Then just unscrew the top of the box if you need access to the perfectly normal and clear connections inside.Re: Letting truck idleI know two neighbors that do this on newer trucks. I asked and they say they have "always done that". Maybe a new (exaggerated) saying should start. "Old habits might kill new trucks."Re: Anyone been turned away from campground for older rig? All I could afford wrote: As a guy who owns and over 10 year old trailer which is in visually perfect condition, i'd like to offer the opinion that I wouldn't be offended if I Campground had a policy such as "all RVs and trailers must be in a reasonably presentable condition, to be determined by the management. But a blanket restriction based only on age seems silly and not in the spirit of camaraderie I come to expect when camping I like this too. A particular age or year just doesn't cut it. A park should just reserve the right to decline service to a piece of junk, just like a place can choose to not serve without a shirt or shoes or whatever.Re: Garmin Streetpilot getting fewer satellitesLooks like they only make one 7 inch nowadays. Probably why I have kept this one as most of the new ones are smaller. I have to chuckle at the new "lifetime" options they offer now. Lifetime means "useful life" as they determine. The asterisks say as long as they don't make the maps bigger than your device and "its useful life to be ended if no updates have been downloaded for such product for a period of 24 months or more." So 2 years is a lifetime and I must be really really old !Re: Garmin Streetpilot getting fewer satellitesNot lately. I was just getting it out yesterday for spring and noticed it was worse than at the end of last summer. Worked fine when I was look east but nowhere else. I thought the update was just maps and didn't realize it changed anything else like possible satellites. Maybe that will do it. Now if I can find my cable...Always in the way when I don't want it. :)Garmin Streetpilot getting fewer satellitesI know the general answer to this will be "just buy a new one" in todays throw away environment. I have a Garmin StreetPilot, 7 inch model that I have owned and loved since 2007. I have tried new ones and even the big RV specific units but always go back to this one as being my favorite on the road. Works easily, big screen and doesn't fall down or create a flying hazard. Since last summer and even more now, it has a hard time finding satellites and getting my location. Seems to only get them from driving in one direction. So my guess would be that old satellites die off and new ones are not replacing them so my hardware can't find much any more? So the unit just eventually stops working, you have to buy a new one to feed the company and put a good device in the landfill? Kind of sad. I know, my iPhone works great with maps and Waze, or the GPS model iPad works great all the time but I still like having the StreetPilot there. Wondering if anyone has similar experience or thoughts.Re: Anyone been turned away from campground for older rig?I haven't been turned away yet but I almost wish I was so it would be fun to sometimes ask things back. Like how old are your hookups? How old are your shower heads? How old is that huge rut and bump and I have to drive over? How old is the stained coffee pot in your fancy lounge? :) And now with the pricey Airstream vans and others or beautiful old mint/restored rigs, why would a business turn those away? I kind of wish all the people in these posts that vaguely mention places that had the age rule would post the name of the place. I could make some notes in my notebook.Re: Old Style PlumbingI recently did some plumbing work and found a few options. The stuff at the big box stores like Home depot and Lowes is different than the connections in most RVs. The Flair it fittings are probably what would be there and are still in many new rigs too. You can find those online at the lowest prices. Then some dealers may have some too but I found the local stores were charging double what online sellers had them for. The big box stores have different kinds and sizes without the same type of connections. They also have the shark bite style under that name at one of them and something else at the other. I think Lowes has another name. They are pretty easy to use but I don't know about long term. They are kind of a pain to get back off in tight corners. I did a couple wrong and had to undo them and it was tough when you don't have much room to pull on each section.Re: would you pay $41 to enter a National Park?I would pay it for some parks but probably not for others. Some of them, you just have to do and they know that. Lesser parks can't get away with it though.
